- Bubbagot a call, they left a voicemail and this tollfree return number, pretending to be a collection agency.
THIS IS A SCAM. Credit ID Theft gangs pull this trick, claiming to be a collection agency, using a name and "case file number" that is totally bogus. They use your fear of being incorrectly targeted by a collections outfit to pull info from you - they sucker you into giving them your SS#, address, etc so they can "clear up their file informationa dn take you off their list"- Caller: ScamCo LLC

- MJ| 2 repliesA representative named “David” called my wife about an “unpaid medical bill”, validated her identify via the last four digits of her SS# and threatened to take her to court. He offered her the ability to pay the original amount due now ($500) or the dissolution amount of $2,500 at a later date. They also offered payment plans. They claimed to be a law firm that buys debt in bulk, but cannot provide information on the underlying creditor due to HIPPA restrictions.
I contacted David via the number provided. David claimed to be apart of Kaplan Law Group, a pre-litigation office based in San Diego. However, if you call the 877-205-7324 the receptionist answers as “The Falcon Law Group”, which is often discussed scam on this site as a scam. There are also instances of scams for Kaplan and Falcon/TFG.
I informed David that no payments were to be made unless were receive a mailed letter validating the origination of debt. David indicated a letter had already been sent and that if he sent another letter it would be beyond the 30-day payment window and a higher amount would be required. When I told David no payment would be made until we received a written debt validation he became impatient and said he had “another client call”. I suspect we’ll never receive hard-copy mailing of anything.
It is concerning the amount of personal information they had on my wife: SS#, Car make/model (likely based on loan documents), and home address (also likely extrapolated from car loan/registration documents).
These people are absolute scumbags – preying on individuals that may actually have unpaid medical bills. It’s wild they can sleep at night.- Caller: Kaplan Law Group

- BigA replies to MJHIPAA has no bearing on debt collection. That is under the purview of the FDCPA and the more stringent state laws. You are correct in that both of those names are being used by criminal enterprises.

- Kenneth McGuireI got a call from them, also. Falcon Group working within Kaplan Law Group, medical bill unpaid, had my last SS last 4 digits and my drivers license number.
I was pretty aggressive with them, pushing them for info, interrupting for details. She didn't like it (Allison Montgomery), and didn't push for more money. I think she was glad to get me off the phone.
Claimed they had sent notices, and would send another.
I'm going to call Kaplan next, see what they think about it.- Caller: Falcon Group, part of Kaplan Law Group USA
