- Brian| 1 replyCalled ID showed TOLL FREE CALL. Let ring 3 times and went away. Called back, got message they were with SMILE TRAIN, a charity that helps kids in poor countries with facial deformities (I've donated to them in the past).
- Caller: Smile train
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- RT replies to BrianHi,
Beware!
According to their own website,
Smile Train does not solicit over the phone!
THIS IS A SCAM - DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY PERSONAL/CREDIT CARD INFO! - pallywallyI too have received these annoying calls. I made a donation to the Smile Train a few years ago in rememberance of a friend's passing. Since then not only have I received these calls but receive at least one mailing a week requesting donations. Smile Train advertizes on the Web, newspapers and magazines. I don't know what the % is of money is actually going to help children, but it can't be much.
- Caller: Smile Train
- SaraGoogled Smile Train after their 4th call in two days. Went to contacts. Called and spoke to a representative. Told him that I and my family contributed in the past (true!), but am reconsidering future contributions. He denied knowledged of the phone calls but said that he would take me off their call list anyway. Claims that it will take 30 days before the calls will stop. He is doing me no favor. This charity is off my list!!!!
- William SpindleKeeps calling but no one is at the other end....early in the morning to late at night....
- Caller: ??
- LTHGot the call around 1pm and immediately *69 (since I've resorted to old school phones during kitchen renovation) and got this number. I called back and got a message that the number was "not turned on" and that I should try again at a later date. Seriously? It would seem so.
All the talk above about Smile Train sounds dubious. I have NEVER donated to them, so I don't think that's who is actually calling. Whoever or whatever is calling need to be reported to the authorities. - LTHGot the call around 1pm and immediately *69 (since I've resorted to old school phones during kitchen renovation) and got this number. Getting several calls per day from the 877 number group all without messages. - WMSsame problem for me - the phone company was able to block the number.
- Me| 1 replyThe above number calls my Mom-no message. I called the number and the message says it is SmileTrain. Mom donated $$ to them once and now she receives mailings EVERY week asking for more money and now they are calling! I blocked their number on Mom's phone!!
- Caller: Smile Train
- PAUL replies to MeIt won't do any good. They have a large set of numbers which they apparently rotate. You would think someone at the charity has the brains to avoid antagonizing prospective (and current) donors. However, I think it is not really Smile Train itself making these calls, but Infocision Corp -- a telemarketer specializing in charities. (Look them up, too.)
- JHI called Smile Train and they do solicit over the phone. I requested to be taken off the call list and they were happy to do so.
