This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  One of the tricks they use is to call your work place repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying.  They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Was called at work & asked to return a call to the above number because I was going to have "legal action" taken if I did not settle a debt I owed.  The number that came over my ID is 612-430-7301.  They are scammers & have been trying to scam me since this summer.  They use different numbers, different company names (all which do not exist) & claim all sorts of things.  I've reported the first harasser to the FCC & Attorney General, but they keep changing numbers.  I'm getting fed up with them!

called and said I was going to be sued...when I questioned them and asked them to fax me their paper work they said they didn't have any. put me over to his manager....I told him I was going to have my attorney call them...he rattled off some other stuff then hung up.

612-430-7301 called me 2x in a row. The 2nd time I picked up and a lady stated she was with some legal company - I didn't pick up what they were called. She asked me to verify my social security number with her and I told her that I would not do that. She got upset and said that she couldn't tell me about how I have legal action against me. I said that was fine and they could send me a letter. She asked for my social again and I told her I would not give out my social to anyone over the phone. She ended it with "Good luck in court". All I could do was laugh and thank her for her well wishes.

I've received these before. Sometimes it's fun just to mess with them. The best is when they threaten to send the Sherriff to my place of work or home. I always welcome that.
