This Company CR Associates called my mother home stating that I owe a debt for 10years ago and that this was a call to advise that they were forwarded this account an stating that this is the time to take care of it that they were preparing for 1099c form for as unclaimed income. Then when I asked for more info they hung up called back to get an address said to have my attorney call then hungup again. This Company clearly violated the FDCPA law. I'm an now preparing a Suit.

We also got a call from this number and they were calling regarding a debt that is almost 10 years past due. They threatened my husband stating that if this was not taken care of by the end of the day they were going to take further action adn we would have to travel to another state to take care of this debt because it will be out of thier jurisdiction. They have called family members, family member's cell phones and even got hold of my husband's work provided cell phone number which means they must have called his place of employment which does not look good for him! We do not have the financial means to pursue action but hope that someone could help us to determine whether or not this is legal.

How did your debt get 10 years old?  Because you never paid.  This is the reason for the economic crisis.  Help the economy, pay your debts!

Because it's not a valid debt.  Duh.  And you probably work for a collections agency, maybe even this one.  One of the tactics of questionable companies is to troll these sites and change numbers and methods as people help get names, locations and numbers linked together to identify companies using illegal debt collection practices.

Legitimate collectors give clear identifying information because they have no reason not to...they have your information and have no reason to keep their identify from you.
