- LadyDi| 1 replyI have not received a call but signed up for "free credit report" (remember nothing is free) and now I CANNOT get them to stop taking money from my checking account. I have called them and they say it should have been canceled in January 09 but they are still taking my money!! If anyone has any ideas for me, please let me know.

- DaniThe same thing is happening to me. Ive called about 5 times now to cancel, but they keep charging me, how can they do that?!
- Free Credit Report Scam replies to LadyDiFree Credit Report says that they make it clear that when you ask for a free credit report that you are actually signing up with them like if you were signing up to join a club. If you want out of the contract, here is what you do:
1. Write them a letter. Not a nasty-gram, but a real letter simply stating you want them to cancel your contract with them. Send it certified, return receipt so they can not say you did not do this. This becomes evidence if you have to go to trial.
2. Call them. Their number is listed online and in your bank statement. Tell them - nicely - that you want the subscription canceled. Note the date and time in a simple notepad file. This is evidence #2. Save the file to "Call Log for Free Credit Report".
3. Call your bank. Your bank will say that you need to change your credit card. I know it is a pain in the rear to do this, but it is the best way to stop these people. Remember that when you do this you will also have to re-enter your new credit card number into all of the on-line places you have set up to pay bills, buy stuff, etc....
4. If they continue to submit claims to your bank - go to the police station and file a complaint against the company and then go to your bank and place a stop against any/all transactions from that company.
5. File in small claims court against the company to get your money back. Since the company is on the internet - they are responsible for coming to where YOU are rather than you having to go to them. As such, it is likely that you will win hands down. Once you have won, go file a lien against them and begin the process of collecting the funds the court has awarded you.
