Someone clamimg to be from capital one.  scam. Hung up

Left msg... Says its capital one estate affairs.  My mom did pass away but I'm still cautious.

This is a legitimate caller.  It is Capital One Estate Customer Care Specialists number.  They try to call once and if they don't receive a response, they send you a letter regarding a deceased's account that listed you as a notifiable person.

This is a number for Capital One Estate Customer Care. I called Capital One to cancel my mother's credit cards after she passed away. They informed me that the estate department would contact me with further info on how to settle the account. They contacted me by phone a week or so later. This is a legitimate caller.

This is in fact a valid number. It's the Estate Dept for Capital One - after they are notified of a cardholder passing away, with a balance still due, the file is referred to the Estate Dept to see if Probate is filed for them to file a claim against. They were really nice - I was the contact person for my mother in law's credit cards and though they've all been fine, Capital One has gone above and beyond in making sure that I knew I wasn't personally responsible and that they were following up with the Estate. Also, they've only called twice - the first time I missed the call, and they called back just now (about a month later). It's easier just to answer the call and give them the information.

This is a valid number. This is the Capital One Estate Department - who called To collect a debt after my fathers passing away.  They were very professional and considerate of what I was going through during my time of loss.

Legitimately Capital One, attempting to settle accounts of the deceased (or somebody doing collections on their behalf).  Still a debt collection tho and the number stated during this call was suspiciously higher than it was at time of reporting the card holder's death 2 weeks prior - they did however offer to send me 3 statements via mail so I could review what had occurred on the account since my prior call.

Overall, it was a pretty pragmatic call simply trying to resolve the account however seemed most practical and secure - not a call to be scared of unless you're broke and ducking collectors.
