After reading these notes I returned the call announced the call was being recorded for legal purposes and gave an attorneys name ... "Michael" answered in a hostile tone he did not wish to be recorded and was ending the call to which I replied "I will be following up with legal action" and he slammed the phone and hung up.

He told me his name was Ken Renolyds. I went to my local police about it and they acted like they didn't care. The lady cop even called the number and believed that he was a lawyer.

You gave us insufficient information to make a solid determination.
However, such calls are usually beyond the jurisdiction of local Law Enforcement.

If the caller claimed they were some kind of debt collector,
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Not a law firm.   A law firm will normally send you a letter, if they have a client with a complaint.  Most lawyers will not cold-call an opposing party. A law firm will ID themselves as such.

This is basically a debt scamming operation.  Pure and simple.  It's unlikely anyone has any "claim" against you.  The people who called you are trying to scare you into thinking you are under some sort of legal jeopardy or another. Total nonsense.

If this group has a valid debt, they are supposed to send you a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.   Of course they won't do this,  because they are scammers and don't want anyone to know their address.

These people are very unpleasant and  intimidating when you try to talk to them, especially if they have cold -called you.  You might have to shout and talk over them.  Force (verbal) is the only thing they understand.  Yell at them if need be.

If they are bothering you, report them:

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

Like I say, you can't be gentle with these people.  They give you any nonsense, yell at them and tell them you are not going to be pushed around by scammy debt collectors.

Total scam operation.  Ignore these people.    No process server lets you know in advance that they are going to serve you papers.  They just show up.  This is a scam operation.  Don't talk to these people.  Block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

Go back to the police department and demand to make a complaint for extortion. If the policeman called this person, he should have asked for-- 1.  The name of the state the lawyer was licensed in and-- 2.  The location of the lawyer's office.

Demand to make a complaint for extortion.  If the desk person won't help you, ask for a supervisor.   At the very minimum you need a name and address for this so-called lawyer.

If you get no help with the police, go to the local DA's office and tell them about the debt scamming operation.  The DA usually has his or her own set of investigators.

    Report them:

Also contact your local attorney general

I called the 877-337-2667 out of curiosity.  The person answering was someone who called herself Veronica Lawson who requested me to leave a message.   The name Veronica Lawson rang a bell.  Sure enough, Veronica Lawson or someone claiming that same name has a history on 800notes.  She was associated (855-983-4772) with something called Amero Partners.  The name is also associated with a scam involving a company called Full Spectrum Litigation (888-787-7602).
Amero Acquisition Partners has an F rating on BBB.  So far as I know Full Spectrum Litigation is out of business.   Or has transformed itself into some new scam business.  Full Spectrum was in business a couple of years ago and were serious debt scammers.  A lot of really bad stuff going on.

So.  Watch out for anyone calling from this number.  Watch out for Veronica.  She's a pretty bad actress.
