Person calls claiming they are taking legal action against me for an upaid debt.  
The debt in question was paid over 5 years ago, and the 1st collection company changed the last digit of the acct # and resold it.  Every year I get another call regarding this but they do not follow proper protocal for collecting on a debt.  I call them on it and end up getting hung up on.

This particular call, I explained that it was a fraudulent attempt to collect on a paid debt and I needed her to mail me all the information regarding the claim in question and she hung up on me.

DO NOT FALL FOR THESE SCAMS!!!  Collectors must send a letter in writing prior to contacting you over the phone. Unless it is a student loan, they CANNOT demand payment electronically. Money orders are guaranteed funds as well.

Furthermore, all of these attempts have come from NY.  Two of the companies actually sent me the information I required and I reported them to the FTC and BBB.  

If they harass you the same I recommend you do the same.
