This caller claims to be "APG Arbitration" calling to settle a debt. They've called my cell and my work number. The company has no website. They do not show up on a google search, nor are they on Google Maps. They called from a number in Phoenix, AZ. They aren't listed in the AZ Corporation Commission database. They called the other day from a phone number in Eureka, NY. They aren't listed in the NY Corporation Commission database and don't appear on Google Maps there, either. I suspect that they are a debt collection agency masquerading as an arbitration group. Any legitimate arbitration group would actually want people to find them and get in touch with them to, you know, actually arbitrate disputes. This agency is a ghost. It's like they don't exist. And since I'm very good at finding these records, when it seems like something doesn't exist, it's usually because it actually doesn't exist.

Called again today. Returned the call and it answers to APG Mediation. No one ever comes to the phone. It's my guess that this is a scam.

They are a collection office.  I had a debt there and am paying them... They sent me over an email like I asked.  I was skeptical too.

They called on my wife's phone and said they couldn't reach me so they were calling her as I gave her as a reference.  They said they were with APG Arbitration.  I have never recieved a call from this company before.  They left a long reference number.  I forwarded the message as I have YouMail to my attorney.  I had someone similar call about a month ago and wanted me to pay them by wire or debit card yet that day.  I asked for an email with who they were representing and they refused to do it and threatened me on the phone.

Said they were APG Arbitration and they have my electronic signature and when I would not verify my SSN or DOB they said they could not discuss anything further with me.  I asked them to mail me anything they want and she hung up on me.  Said her name was Kathy Rizzo.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Thank you  BigA for that important information. The only problem is that they always call from 100 different numbers. I would be filing complaints all day every day. Hopefully, someday, they will give the heck up!
