I recieved a card in the mail stating i had made an overpayment to a Texas based public agency and i was about to lose claim to it. The number I was to call matched the number i see posted on your blog.  I felt it was a scam as soon as i saw it. It wasnt even postmarked by the post office.

I received the same card.  Tried to research if a scam online but only came up with some agencies that help recover FHA overpays (home loan through FHA).  I am afraid to call cuz think it is a scam.  I am not owed any money accept through a small claims case I recently won but not been paid on.  If anyone gets info - please advise!!

Received a letter  and checked the address.  Found more than 4 different companies with same address , including suite number.  Then  checked on the BBB and no such company and phone number can be found on the database.  I am pretty sure no public agencies owe me anything.  It is certainly a scam.

I received a post card with the amount 2088.78 on it, I found this odd, because it was the amount of my last tax refund. Then I got a letter from them stating the same thing, only the amount had increased to 2092.  I called and they said they have information that a Texas agency (I am in Houston area) has a refund I am owed, and they will get it for me if I give them permission. They want 50% of the refund. They said if they collect nothing, they get nothing and they said if I didn't have time to come to their office, they would come to my home. Theres no way I would give someone 50% for something I over paid 100% on......I am sure this is some kind of a scam, I am working 12 hour days in this stupid economy, so it was enticing, but I just don't have the time.  Still, I'd like to know what this is and can't help but wonder if I am owed the money.  In my 40+ years experience, if I overpaid a government agency, they will eventually figure it out and send me a check..I'm not going anywhere. I shredded the letter and post card.

I also received a letter from the Refund Recovery Bureau and they listed a phone number of 877-369-6090 for me to call to recover a refund owed to me.  I don't know of any refund owed to me and I also can't find any information online that verifies whether this is a legitimate company or not.  It sounds like some sort of scan but I'm not sure.

I received the same letter, I believe that you maybe owned some money but if you really want to know what has been reported to the state of Texas you should check Texas unclaimed properties. You don't have to give anyone half your money!

I also received a letter from the "Refund Recovery Bureau" dated Decmber 8, 2010, and ran accross your website.  It looks very much like a scam to me.  Joe Barret signature at the bottom appears to be froma 3rd grader's print job.

I met with a rep from this company today to see what it was about. They are checking to see if you have filed a homestead exemption (you have probably just recently moved).  All you have to do is contact your taxing authority and if you are eligible get the form and file it yourself.  It is  real $$$ if it is owed to you they are just going to file it for you for 50%.
