yeah, this was legit for me too, although i couldn't figure it out at first.  the $15 charge came up as "scott mcgovern scott middleburg" out of FL but i had no idea who these people are.  then the other posts made me think of a woodcraft vendor who used an iphone device to run the charge for a gift we got our son.  i looked up the date of when we were at that place and, sure enough, it was correct.  (the gift was a pretend "wand" from a medieval faire, if ya want to know!)  so all is well.  and no, i'm not a "shill", whatever that is!

It is a real transaction. Mine was Encore Events Inc. Anaheim. There is a phone number  with the charge so you could try calling that. If you keep your receipts then you can check out what you spent it on.

I did make a charge via a similar device - but the charge is completely BOGUS! The merchant pays a fee to their provider - which was not this company!!!

look up the address related to the charge - 901 Mission Street, Suite 201 - pick any city. BOGUS charge. They told me my card was swiped by one of their devices - I KNOW it was not! Call them, listen to the echo of the empty office. Something is not right here!

I just found this vendor charged my card $1800! That's not something I'd just forget about. Showed up on the card without the number,  called something like Leroyal. Had to call the bank to even get the number, they said it was classified under "unknown professional services." Had to dispute the transaction and cancel the card. Sad that people can get away with that kind of fraud.

I had an unexpected charge of $246.02 from an individual I didn't know (or didn't think I did).  When I called the number on my credit card it gave a website: squareup.com/receipt where you can get the receipt for your charge.  It requires the amount, date of purchase, last four digits of your card and expiration date.  Sure enough, it came up with my receipt and I remembered what I'd done.  Good job.  Saved me some embarrassment.  My hairdresser would not have appreciated my refusal to pay!  :)

    Square
This is a number for Square (squareup.com) that sometimes appears on credit card statements. It tells you how you can look up your receipt online (squareup.com/receipts). It will have the full information about the receipt, including location, any items that were itemized on the receipt to help remind you of what the charge is. All you need to look up your is the amount of the transaction, date, last four digits of your card, and the expiration.

It was for a Taxi - a valid charge.

This number showed up on my credit card statement and while the charge appears legit, it is actually a double charge. So, here is what I will warn others. Look to see if you have a similar charge the following day or month from same vendor. In my case, it was taxi ride in Miami. I have a charge from the taxi company and then the exact amount the following day from the iPhone square. So, I think the driver took my info from what was in the credit card swipe in his card and entered it into his phone. I have called the number for the taxi service and this number to no avail.

I got a charge with this phone #
I was very confused because I did not recognize it, it just says SQ and then a phone # - how am I supposed to know wtf the charge was for???

Anyway I figured it out in the end - it is for a charging company called square that is kinda like PayPal - I had payed online $10 for a membership to a club and it was a legit charge -

Ok I saw the same number on a clients credit card statement. googled the number and it said "telemarketing". but then i found this site and i saw many people saying it was square and some saying bogus charges. but i had one store that used square so i looked at my amex statement and there was the number. so now i have to agree that when somebody uses square that's the number that will appear. the charge may be bogus of course but the number is legitimate...it means whoever charged you used square.

I got a call from my credit union saying there was a fraudulent charge for  $ 455,80 on my debit card.  I did not authorize this and don't recognize the number.  It was no surprise to read the following posts from other people with similar experiences.
