Left a voicemail and pretended to be trying to "trace me" and discover my "whereabouts." Then proceeded to have an automated voice state some other person's name... but declared how important it was for me to call them back IMMEDIATELY. Honestly... this was one of the more convincing scams I've heard, but FORTUNATELY for me, I'm not a dumbass. Blocked their number and will report the caller to the authorities if contacted again.

They claimed that the "legal system allows them to contact all references on file." Be my guest... seeing as you didn't even know whom you were attempting to initiate contact with.

Same as below, tracing a friend's mom, press 0 or immediately call back their number.  It was more convincing than other scam lines.

This place is ridiculous. They keep calling trying to contact a relative. If they can get my number they can get the number of who they are looking for. This is such BS!

This gentleman called me now I didn't answer so I called back and he says he had my name in my social security number but that still didn't convince me so he tried to tell me that I owed $198 to a collection agency and I said for what and he said for a payday loan open back in 2007 so I told him I said well that was over ten years ago and why would you now be calling me on something from 10 years ago and he said well we tried to contact you so I said okay I said well can you send me proof that I owe this loan he's so I can send you a bill I said no you can send me the paperwork that I signed and he tried to tell me that I assigned it via email and I said you're full of crap on that cuz I know any kind of loan has to have a signature and I said you have a blessed day and I hung up I blocked them and my next thing is to report them to the FTC as a fraudulent debt collector cuz they are out here trying to do this people do not fall for it if they refuse to send you proof and they'll say I'll send you a bill no I told the gentleman first of all I'm not going to pay for something if you can't prove that I owe it and I hung up on them don't fall victim to him cuz they're out there pulling these scams

A person doesn't have to be "a dumbass" to fall for this scam, you know. Plenty of people are naive enough to believe a caller who tells them they owe a debt but that doesn't make said person "a dumbass".

If your feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS.  Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039). Also file a report at the FTC Identity Theft web site as well as learn what else you need to do:

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

He has harrassed my family as well as my childrens father saying i used them as a reference for something and needs to know my where abouts also he had my ss # and all family members numbers

Get this call that they are trying to find me... I've lived in the same place for 6 years... I'm not that hard to find. From what I'm reading it looks like they have very old data. Old debt 10 years or older.  Trying to collect said debt as a scam.

Claim that I owe for old payday advance loans. Wrong! All my debts are paid and my credit is clear. These frauds are calling people I know and harassing them too. I called in to tell them I'm debt free and to stop calling me and my family.
Woman tried to call me "honey" and tell me "you know you still owe these debts though, right?"
I said "I'm not you're honey and I don't owe anyone anything. Stop calling." And hung up.
Someone needs to do something about these creeps already!
