I just received a spam email pointing to one of those fake "your computer is infected with a virus" web pages. 877-465-5380 was given as the number to call to get the "infection" removed (along with a lot of your money and possibly your identity, too). Stay away.

Message on computer that froze screen and gave telephone number to call to CORRECT SITUATION.  Called Geek Squad and they informed me that this was a scam and they probably downloaded something on my computer.  They also wanted $199.99 to add proxy cleaner and optomizer.  BEWARE

My son's computer had a message pop on his computer with this phone number.  Message said to call 877-465-5380 immediately as computer "was infected and data loss would occur" if computer was shut down.  He could not close the message, had to force laptop to shut down and restart.  This is a SCAM!!

This telephone number (877-465-5380) is a SCAM. I turned on my new Dell all-in-one and when i tried to go to a website on Chrome, my computer froze with urgent scary, message to call the number to fix the problem (they said if i tried to turn off my computer, my registry would be destroyed). i called the GeekSquad, which i bought with this computer, and they told me it was a SCAM! Do not call that number, and don't turn off computer. Geek Squad then fixed my computer with their remote access. Thank GOD for them!

I had a message pop up on on my PC saying to call this number to fix my computer and not to turn it off. It appeared to have  locked up my PC but I opened the task manager and stopped my browser there. Ran a virus and malware scan and it showed nothing. My computer is working fine. This seems to happen more and more over the last few weeks, and if I didn't know it was a scam I probably would have called the number to "fix" my machine. I called 877-465-5380 anyhow and when they answered I said I was returning a voice message I had gotten from the IRS having a case against me. That's another well known scam. The guy kept asking what window I was on so I told him I was near the one in the living room.  I was able to waste about 10 minutes of his time before he figured out I was scamming him. At least that was 10 minutes of his that he couldn't use trying to scam someone. I think the next time I get a fake IRS call I'll tell them I need my computer fixed. I'm home recovering from surgery and have lots of free time I can use to waste theirs. Frigging scammers!
