This number is for the U.S. National Passport Information Centre.

The US Passport Center is 877-487-2778.  Note the last few digits are different.  This number is frequently misdialed, getting to this number 2278 instead which is a company selling things.  The first clue is you are calling a government line and it says we have a special offer today if you are over age 50 please press 1.  Then an operator comes online.  I knew immediately this was a misdial and double checked.  Sure enough, I misdialed.  I think they did this on purpose.  BUT, on the caller ID they ghost the name Passport Agency.  So they are trying to get you to think they are the State Dept.  I think they may be trying to sell travel related things.
