They keep calling about a bill I already paid. However, they always hang up when I answer. The only reason I know why they are calling is because I called them back.  Anybody have luck talking to an actual person when this number pops on up caller ID?

By the way, they are complete gangsters. Do not give them any money no matter what they threaten. They will eventually go away.

How long does it take for them to go away

In my experience, they go away when they think you are a waste of time.  So I make it a waste of their time.  I only answer when I can keep them on the phone while doing something else (driving, etc). I then babble in a slow and annoying manner, constantly asking them questions and to explain everything over and over.  Eventually THEY hang up. After a few times I let them know that I will never hang up and that I enjoy keeping them on the phone because it's ruining their chances of making any money that day.  If you don't like to talk to them you can always say "can you hold on a minute?" and put the phone down and go about your business for a few minutes (afterall, they interrupted your day). Come back, let them rant for a minute and put them on hold again.  Sometimes you can do this about 5 times before they hang up.

Frequent calls with no one answering.

Wasting public funds by distracting workers.

They call 4-5 times a day yes sometimes they hang up when i answer. Never have actually talked to a real person.

calls come to my cell phone from this number, a few times a week to a few times a day.
No idea who they are. Never got a person or machine or anything when I answer, they just immediately hang up.

call three-four times daily, seven days a week even up to 8:55pm and start at 8:01am (weekends too)

I continued to get calls from there, no one ever answers. Very annoying.  Called Qwest,they said to call 1-888-382-1222 National Do Not Call List.  Or you can register at donotcall.gov  If calls continue after 31 days you can report the company by either name of phone number at the same web side. This should be good for 5 years.  Hope it helps.

I receive calls from this number about 10 times daily, and each time I answer there is nothing but silence. When I call them back during mid-day Eastern time during weekdays, the recording says, "For quality assurance, your call may be monitored or recorded. Please stay on the line to speak to the next available sales associate. You're reaching the Card Services Department. Please stay on the line for a Customer Care associate." Then another recording kicks in and says, "You're reaching the Recovery Department. Please call back during normal business hours. Our business hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. til 11 p.m., Friday, 8 a.m. til 12 p.m., and 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. til 1 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. til 9:30 p.m." In each case, however, I have called back during those business hours but am never able to speak to a human.

They just ticked off the wrong person with technical ability.

They call about once every other day, and do not respond when I pick up.  They don't answer when I call back either.

I called them twice.  They tried to match up my name with my phone number, and had the wrong name.  They also asked for my social security number.  Yeah right.

During nights and weekends, that's cheap entertainment.

Yeah, now they are asking for social. They also say they are legally allowed to call as many times as they want if nobody answers (no idea if thats a federal or state law or if they are making it up). That's why their phone system hangs up on people. They figure anybody that calls them back is more likely to give them money.

It's funny that you say to put oneself on the do not call list.  We have been on the list for 2 years and still get unsolicited phone calls.  This number started calling August 20th.  They stopped for a couple of days and started up all over again.

I have gotten calls almost EVERY day from the number 877-487-5583, but when I pick up, NO ONE answers. I finally got frustrated and called THEM. I did get somebody but they refused to tell me the name of THEIR company. All the person would tell me is that they were calling for (my name) and that it was regarding an old account with a credit card company called Providian. I did have an account but when that company wouldnt accept payments, they eventually charged off the account YEARS ago. Im like WTF. Stop calling me I told them. He had the nerve to tell me and I quote "Well you should've made better choices." Can you believe that? When will this nightmare end? Im about to unplug my phone in the evening. When my family moves (which will be soon) I plan to change my phone number. Probably wont work but its worth a try. Anyone have another suggestion as to what to do?

However, I did find a site through a site like this called Reverse Phone Detectives. They look up and find the name of the company that goes to phone numbers. I asked them to look up 877-487-5583, the company that for the last month or more has called me every day between 6 & 9 pm. Below is the reply I got.

Anyway, hope this helps anybody. It hasnt helped ME much other than put a name with the number. Again, if anyone has a suggestion as to what to do, please tell me. The daily phone calls are driving me crazy and *I* think when someone calls a person EVERY DAY (even if they are a collection company..i think) and doesnt say anything that its harrasment, because theyre bugging you so much that you finally get fed up and call THEM. Help!

They call me about 3-4 times a day as well. We need to do something about this.
