- DanHey Everyone,
I finally picked up promptly after several harassment attempts where once I picked up no one was on the other end, and they claimed to be a collections agency for New York DMV. They had one of my old addresses, I haven't owned a car in New York in almost two years, AND I had just renewed my plates in the state where I now reside without a single question asked - so it smelled super fishy. I played along, they said they were collecting for 'allied collections' or something with the word 'allied' on behalf of the NY DMV. As they bs'd me with their speech I searched my credit report, saw NOTHING on it from these guys... once they were done, I had my ammunition and calmly told them that a) They weren't showing up in my credit report, b) I had just registered plates and couldn't have done that if I had such overdue collection of parking tickets, c) their information was incredibly outdated. The woman on the phone got angry at me, tripper on her words, and explaied that the reason why it wasn'tt showing up was because they actually represent the NY finance department - more BS. That's when I explained that I was going to hang up and check in with the State of New York and that if I did indeed owe money, that I would pay them directly - not some stranger tripping over their own words and contradicting the reality of my interactions with the DMV as early as two weeks ago.
Sure enough I spent hours calling the NY DMV, the finance/collections arm of the city of New York, the finance/collections arm of the state of New York, and NOTHING... My record was clean as a whistle. Bottom line - these people are trying to steal your money and possibly your identity.
But it goes to show you the doubt these people put you in. So get your information in order (as much of a pain in the butt as it is) and toy with these dummies... At one point I even told the woman that I felt bad that this is how she had to make a living, whether legit or not, and told her to pursue something else with her life. What a sad way to make a living, ripping people off.- Caller: 'allied' collections
