This number keeps calling me talking about prevention from visa fraud. The computerized voice knew and repeated the last 4 digits of my credit card. The voice also mentioned about speaking in behalf of UW-Credit Union and asked for me to call them back as soon as possible and should have my credit card number ready with me. I think this sounds like fraud to begin with!

I don't think this was a scam. I just purchased a computer online and as soon as I confirmed my order they had called me to let me know that someone had, well, bought something for a large sum of money with my account online.

They just needed me to confirm it.

I received a call from this number asking me to call about some potentially unauthorized charges on my Visa debit card through UWCU.

When you call the number given in the message, you enter your credit card number, billing zip code, and last 4 digits of your SSN. I did speak to a representative who told me what the fradulent charges were.

I believe this is bona fide as my card is now showing up as canceled as it should. If it were a scam they would likely ask you for the expiration date and CVV2 number (3 digits on back of card) because without those you can't use the card for purchases.

The posters are right - it's definitely a legit number. Check the fraud numbers listed on the UW Credit union website...they match. I got a call and there were $600+ worth of fraudulent charges made with my card in a state I've never even been to at the local Wal-Mart. Great way to start out a Monday, let me tell you.

I had this number call me too, three times today in fact.  I've called UW Credit Union's office and they said it's a scam.  You should never enter your card number into an automated service.  When in doubt call the main office and talk to them.

Same as above.  two times today.  i did go to my online account with the uw credit union and they list two numbers that might contact you in the event they think your card was used fraudulently.  this is one of the numbers listed 877-506-8752 and is only for the debit cards.

This appears legitimate to me.  I made a purchase through paypal with my UWCU debit card a few minutes before I received this call.  I called back they did not ask for the card's expiration or CCV number but they did tell me the charges they were concerned about.  Definitely call this number back, especially if you haven't recently made any charges

I placed an order online, and received a fraud prevention call from this number.

I made the charges, so I felt comfortable confirming it. If you receive a call from this number, and haven't made any recent charges on your credit card, you should call them back ASAP.

I got messages from this number today and just called the customer service number on the back of my card and was told that it was legit and was transferred to someone in fraud prevention who just wanted to make sure that my last purchase was actually mine. I was told I did the right thing by calling them directly since there are a number of scams out there that sound just like the real thing.

Moral of the story? Always call the credit card company directly yourself to confirm that it's really them. Never call just a random number back or give your info out to a random number that calls you. They will not be offended if you ask to call them back directly through a main and public line of the credit card company or financial institution.

In fact, just because I said this was legit for me, don't take my word for it. I'm just another stranger on the internet. If this number shows up for you, hang up, find the number on the back of YOUR card, and call them to inquire. Seriously.

I also received a call from this number today on behalf of UW Credit Union and Visa verifications. It was an online purchase and they wanted to verify that I had actually made the purchase. Now that I know it's legit, I am very happy to have the service in place!

This number is legit- the UW Credit Union uses an automated service programmed to make these calls whenever it sees something funny like an out of state transaction. Like others posting here, I received persistent calls and contacted the credit union to verify it's legit. They actually transferred me into the system from my hometown branch. The system is sensitive and I hope this post reassures you- the UW is watching out for us.

Do NOT call this number back or give any information.  Just confirmed with UW Credit Union that this is a phishing scam.  They will not have an automated system contact their customers.  If there are issues with your account, they will have a person call you.

If you do receive this call, keep hitting #.

I received a call from this number today, and it seems legit.  If you go onto your UW Credit Union account, it brings you to a screen that says:

    Visa Fraud Prevention

When activity appears on your debit or credit card that seems suspicious or out of normal spending habits, our Visa Fraud Prevention Team will contact you.

The Visa Fraud Prevention Team will be calling from one of the following numbers:
        Visa Debit Cards     877-506-8752
        Visa Credit Cards     888-918-7313

So it seems to be legit.  I've received a call from an actual person looking to steal my number before and they also asked for the expiration date, as well as my whole social security number.

This number came up three times on my cell phone. I never answered but got on this site to see who was calling me. I don't bank with UW and have none of thier credit cards so there is no reason they should be calling me. The only credcard I use is not at all related to UW and has had no purchases in a week so no reason they'd be calling today plus my credit cards always have my home number. This sounds like a scam.

I believe this to be real. If you are uncomfortable giving out any numbers over the phone hit 0 and you will be transferred to a representative. Then all you do is give your name and date of birth. If they ask for anything else you should tell them that they should already have it. If they persist hang up and contact your bank.

Hay people, just got the call today, There are companies that spoof phone numbers so even if the # appears to be legit it may not be, so as many have written do NOT give information unless you call the company yourself. Now as for me I do not have a UW acct either, the cell phone they contacted me on is not listed with any acct I have!!!!!!!!!! this is my spam phone that I do not answer unless I've already called the number myself, just to many scammmmmms to waste my time. SO IT IS MOST PROBABLY A SCAM IF THEY CALL YOU! .
