Some kind of virus, appears as the web page informing you that the machine has been infected and need to call 1-877-525-5644 immediately.
I called the numer - the Indian guy said that I'm calling "Windows suport" and that "firewall on my machine" generated this annoying message. He was trying to sell me all kind of BS which I didn't buy (I've been in computer business for over 20 years).

If you see the message ONLY with your browser,
-- google "browser hijack", and try some of the solutions seen there.

If you see the message pretty much all the time,
-- download the anti-malware program from malwarebytes.com (or another legitimate site)
    -- run it
--  Make sure you check the boxes that say "PUPs" (Potentially Unwanted Programs)

If none of that works, you may have to visit your local computer repair shop, or restore your system from a backup created before you saw the "virus warning".

DO NOT CALL THAT PHONE NUMBER!

Got this message tonight while using Explorer. I finally got all of the windows closed and ran AVG's "free: vurus program. Results were "2275 files locked". However, one of them was CCleaner which I ran & it ran fine. Have been online now for about 10 minues and no more pop-up warnings. I did call the number but got no answer.  ??

I was browsing stuff on google chrome and a pop up window showed up, and started speaking through the microphones on my laptop (i have a mac book pro- i got it in 2011 december). I called a number and an indian guy answered too. I asked if I could get help at an apple store with this and they told me all that bs about how they are windows support. I told them I have a mac and he shut up. They I asked for him to wait a moment, looked up support numbers on the apple website and nowhere was I able to find this number. So I asked if i could call back later... He asked what the problem was and I just said bye and hung up.

If you got a pop up from that # and called them I would block them if I were you, at least thats what I did.

I was one of the stupid ones so am hoping I can get out of paying the money they charged to my credit card.  I then called Apple (I have an IMac) and was on the phone with him for quite awhile but did not satisfy the problem so called the Geek Squad and he just left after cleaning up my system.  Luckily they didn't get anything but the enormous amount on my credit card.  A lesson learned, but a very expensive one.  Keep getting calls from an Elite engineer but at least I can ignore them. SCAM!!!!!!!!

I just got this pop-up window, and was immediately suspicious (been in the field too long!), but called the number anyway. I couldn't understand what the Indian guy was telling me (and I've worked with plenty of them!), but I caught the word "Microsoft" (I'm on an iMac). I think he was asking how he could help me (I don't have much patience with people I can't communicate with) - I told him I couldn't understand him, but was calling because I got a pop-up window on my Mac telling me to call this number - the line then went silent... don't think he hung up, but I sure did!! When I closed the pop-up, I got another virus alert window that started speaking to me about my infected machine (I have even less patience with automated voices!), at which point I did a "force quit" on Safari.
It was a good idea to check with Apple (always good to check with the authorized product/service owner). Also, it never hurts to Google it (there were many entries with lots of questions/replies). But I'm sorry there are trusting people who pay for something questionable, at best (hope they can recover).
I've also gotten phone calls in the past - the caller is usually Indian, and says something about supporting MS PC's (just can't remember!?) - at which point, I tell him I have a Mac, and hang up. I never took note of the calling number, but now I'll be sure to check my caller ID after I hang up.
Some of the other sites say this number has been reported, but not to whom - shouldn't it be the FCC?

I also got the message while doing some searches online through safari. I was immediately suspicious when I saw the number and the term "system support". It's bogus. What they are doing is hijacking your browser and sending you into a loop of these messages. If you get this problem force quit the safari application. When it comes down, restart it again only this time hold the shift key down so it will come up without reopening the bad webpage. then immediately clear your history to get rid of that page. You should be OK now. The company's name is support buddy  website is support buddy.net They will tell you that they have 21 million customers. This is crap.
