They attempted to scam my grandparents as well.  Its a shame that people have to scam the elderly. Do not give them what they are wanting.  They also call from the number 760-705-8888

They scammed my 81 year old Mom out of 4,200 claiming her grandson was arrested in Manitoba for DUI and needed bail money and lawyer fess.  They had her wire money to Lima Peru...please share this story to prevent further abuse to the elderly!!!!!

They scammed my 79 year old mom out of 2,000.00 claiming that her granddaughter was arrested in Manitoba for drug possession and needed bail money to get out of a holding tank. They had money wired to Lima Peru...
I wonder what will happen to their parents/grandparents. What goes around, comes around.

Grandparent scam - called my husband's grandma pretending to be him hurt in an accident

Mother-in-law of poster above, Jena.  They called my mother this morning and scared her half to death, pretending to be my son, telling her he was hurt badly in an accident and to send money.  She is still shaking and has not even sat down yet.  This is terrible!  who would prey on the elderly?!

Both numbers (760) 705-8888 and (877) 595-7596 are associated with the "Grandmother Scam", or also known as the 'Relative in Distress" scam.  Luckily our victim was turned away by the two local Western Union locations, as the employees working there were already familiar with the scam. As an FYI, the name "Maura Collins" showed up on the victim's Caller ID. Any time you are asked to send money via Western Union, I would double-check with your local police to see if its fraud related.
