Just received a call, no message left.

Its Citibank student loans dept.

Have called 7 times in the past 4 days, and never leaves a message.  Called the number back and they claimed to be my student loan company.  No automated prompts, only a "representative" asking for my full SS#.  She claimed she could not tell me why they were calling without my personal information.  I refused and contact my student loan company directly (who *didn't* ask for my full SS#).  They said they had no record of them trying to reach me, and that my account was paid up and on-time.  They did admit, however, that not all of their offices' systems are fully integrated, so there could have been a legitimate call without record.

Bottom-line: 95% chance of a scam, 5% chance that it's some remote student loan office trying to contact you with non-critical info / sell you something.

Received a call on my cell from 1-877-629-8832.  No response.  But will definately have it blocked after reading the "comments".

Got a call from the same number. Said they were citibank they said i was past due... if i wanted to pay for the bill now. Told them i would pay it later in the day. Then they asked why i havent paid for it. toldem i forgot. asked them about paying for it online said that it takes a few days to process.
I said i would do it over the phone from the number of my online citibank. They said they could give me the number to citibank i said no thank you i can find it online. They hung up.

This is indeed Citibank's Student Loan "collection" center. They call all the phone numbers you have given them (work, home, school, cell, mom, etc) 2-3 days after you miss a payment. It takes them up to 5 business days to process payments, online, credit/debit, or check-by-phone. Their website's payment system doesn't immediately register that you made a payment, and it doesn't link with their "collection" center. I have been able to avoid calls by sending a message when I make my payment, but sometimes they still call. I think they are lonely. :) They are at least based in the US and friendly. They haven't been leaving messages at my home phone, but will leave robo-messages on my cell.

I wish that Citibank would just call using the automated system...I am not going to give my SS number over the phone to anyone for any reason.  They have called repeatedly and did not leave a message.  When I called them, they had no information to inform me about my account, which was troubling.  If they have my phone number and all the info for my account on their computers, why can they not look up my information with it?!?  After you are late 1 DAY, they start in with the "courtesy" call, in other words, "collections calls".  Their online billing system is always behind and doesn't coordinate with their records- it takes 5 days after you make a payment for them to finally recognize it.  It is so stressful to receive these "courtesy" calls, when I have made the payments religiously.  It is true that the number above is the appropriate number for Citibank collections- at least for now.

This number belongs to citibank student loans.  They call me every month, they don't leave a message but they have never asked me for social security number.  They are slow a processing payments.  They often call me after I have already submitted my payment, but nonetheless, it is Citibank and not a scam. Jan - 2011.

The phone number 877-629-8832 keeps calling and there are no messages left by the party calling my phone number. I do not want this party calling my house because I do not recognize the number and I did not solicit their calls.

I have just moved here from the UK and bought a go phone about 2.5 weeks ago...this number is calling me frequently however based on the posts above I have absolutely no idea why as I have nothing to do with student loans or citibank in the US.

How can I block this number?

received missed calls from this number over 50x in the past week.  Everytime I pick up the phone, there's silence on the other line.  When I call back the number, "citibank student loans" picks up and asks for my social security number.  

I've confirmed with citibank that there is NO record of them calling me.  Everything about this screams SCAM

Citibank loans' courtesy call that you missed a payment due date. If you did not pick up the phone, then go home and check your loan due dates.

My student loan was due on the 20th. I thought I had paid it but I must have forgotten to confirm the payment because at 8:23am on the 21st I got a call from this number and I came to this site. I checked my account and as soon as I verified that my payment had not been taken out of my bank account (although the funds were available) I went ahead and paid it. This is the first time I have ever been late with a payment.

This number has called me 9 times in 2 days. I answered twice and heard nothing on the other line. Once they left an automated message saying to contact them regarding an urgent matter. I've written an email to Citibank asking them to stop this harassment, but they don't appear to care. I'm beginning to wonder if they farm out their collections...maybe they can't see that I've already made the payment.

I've never been late with a payment and furthermore I've been paying more than the minimum payment. I can't believe they're this tenacious in calling about a $120 payment that was one day late.

Very eager to pay off this student loan and wash my hands of Citibank!

Student loan from CitiBank ? ... Duh, I'm 63 years old and my son is almost 40.  This bozo called and my answering machine nearly played out when they hung up... if they were really looking for a person behind on their student loan, they'd have left a message.  So it's a predator scammer scumbag.  

Anyway, this aborted fetus goes on Digitone Call Blocker and PhroneTray Free and their # will never get through again to even ring my phone.

Call from "citibank on a saturday morning, saying i was past due on a loan but im in school and all my loans are deferred. they said they all were except that one. asked if i wanted to make a payment and i said no. very sketchy.

They called me today, Sunday. I explained to them I am still in school, the gentleman was very courteous. I received a phone call from my grandparents who are my co-signers, apparently the called them three times asking for a payment. If I am in school and you have spoken with me, what business do you have calling them? These scavengers will do anything for the money. My student loan is so insignificant when I get out of school I will have it paid off in max a year. Give me a break.

Yes, it's Citibank.  If you make an online payment, their system takes a full week to update, and they WILL harass you several times per day once you're past the due date.  Telling them you've already made a payment and that it has been deducted from your checking account does nothing to stop these obnoxious calls!

Receive daily calls with an automated message "please hold, I have an important call for you" followed by an eventual hangup.  Attempts to call the number displayed yield "your call cannot be completed as dialed"

I called the number back and all it said was "You know what to do. Just leave your name and number and I'll do the rest.
