- KeeKee| 2 repliesYes. They say it's regarding a criminal matter. But when I call back they do not have a record of my case. I person named Bev Crawford said she would look into it and call me back. Well she called back, she just left a voice message asking me to call her back but left no file # or gave any indications what it's about. I have called her back and left several voice messages but she has not returned my call. It has been 3 weeks.

- Alfalfa replies to cricketThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

- Investigation DivaOMG!!!!! they just did they same thing except now they have somehow obtained my aunt's personal information and just called her today claiming that they are trying to "serve me" with court documents between 8am and 4pm tomorrow and that they will issue a warrant for my arrest. i just got finished having a HUGE argument with my aunt and my mother explaining to them that this is a SCAM and not to take it seriously. this company also has gone through SEVERAL name changes claiming i owe for a payday loan but are stupid enough to still use the same phone number. the hilarious part is that the company i DID have the loan with, no longer owns my debt. no one can prove to me that they own my debt at this point. the upside to that is that as a result this cannot be reported to the credit bureaus. i have issued a number of complaints against them with the FTC and with the NYS Attorney General's Office. please please PLEASE heed my comments people and DO NOT pay these scam artists not one damned dime. these people will somehow have all your personal info but keep in mind that before you agree to anything follow these steps:
1) tell them to mail you copies of any and all documents they "claim" to have showing that you own this debt.
2) make sure that you obtain current copies of your credit reports as well as current reports from ChexSystems. these people will try to scare you by claiming that they have also reported you for the debt and/or writing bad checks
3) get as much info about who you are speaking with, date, time, number and address and submit complaints to your state attorney general as well as the FTC
4) if they are stupid enough to call again, let them know that you have reported them and will continue to report them if they continue to harass. if you are able to actually afford your own attorney, DEFINITELY notify your attorney and have them get involved.
AND LASTLY ....DO NOT PAY OR AGREE TO PAY THESE PEOPLE ANYTHING!!!!!- Caller: Creditors

- BeckyJust received a phone call today from a Tracy ? and a Greg Matthews. Tracy called first and when she got rude I hung up on her. Several minutes later Greg called and explained that my husband had 2 criminal charges pending and he was to serve him with papers tomorrow. Asked him where he was lovcated and he told me wherever I was located....HMMMMM. Left me a case number and this number to call. When I called the number and gentleman answered "Creditors" and I gave him the case number and told him that this number was a scam and I was reporting him and the other callers to the FTC. He immediately hung up on me. I called back, told him that unless he sent me something in writing he had NOTHING!!! Told me he was going to take me to court in my city, told him good luck we don't have a courthouse. Told him that the person he was looking for no longer lived here and he took my number off the list. I also told him he might want to consider a new way of reaching out to people because the people he uses are rude. Do not give them ANY information. They are trying to collect a debt for a payday loan. Never took one out and he said I wrote a fraudulent check for the payment and it was a 1000.00 fine for bad checks. Told him the county I live in has no reference to any bad checks I may have. He hung up again. They hate talking to paralegals I guess!!!
