Received message on desktop saying my computer has a virus and to call this no. Called no. and person said he was certified Microsoft tech. Tried to call a known no. for Microsoft to verify but can't get in touch with live person to see if no. in question is legit. My desktop remains frozen

Not a call to me.  Hardly a prank!  Desktop taken over by an unknown program with Microsoft official looking page, with a claim that Microsoft needed to be called at the number below to free up my pc. "Techs will walk you through freeing the PC from this problem. If pc is turned off, the pc will be disconnected from (frozen out) microsoft."  I called the #. Far East accent claiming to be tech. An additional tech will be used to clean your pc.  Told the terrorist that I would check the number and other things out for myself.  I turned pc off with main power switch, unplugged it and disconnected Inet hook ups for 30-45 minutes.  PC seems to be fine. Scanned as soon as able after next power up.

My computer has a virus & I should call 877 740 4666.  My friend googled the number & read about the scam.  Shut down the computer for 15 min.  Computer appears to be OK.

Run your own virus protection program just to be safe.

I called this no. and they wanted 99.00 to unblock my computer. it should be against the law for these people to operate, how do you turn them in

Froze my computer claimed to be Windows security.  Looked official, called 877-740-4666.  They were walking me through the problem.  Fortunately, I had shut off my hotspot.  The guy is advising me to bring my computer to a list of stores.  I laughed and said I'm in a village in Alaska.  Then he asked if I was over 55.  He could fix it remotely. I told him I had turned off the internet. The hotspot was my phone.  I reconnected and started to do what he said and we got disconnected. I called back and got a different guy and I would have started all over.  I told him I was just going to smash my computer. I yelled F&*k. I thought I had hung up. Nope.  We should just all call that number over and over and jam their lines.

I wished these clowns would just "Bugoff".  As reported above, I just shut down and unplugged for an hour then when you bring it up, you will rec a red screen stating this page is found to be suspected fraud, and do not open.

You shouldn't have to shut off your computer or anything. If you are using windows, use CTRL+Alt+Delete to pull up menu. Choose Start Task Manager. Under applications find your browser (Explorer, Mozilla, whatever) and highlight it. Then hit end task. If you get a pop-up from the scammers and the explorer icon pops up again, close the other one first. Then close that one. You are free to open Explorer (or whatever) again. Do not click "restore last session" as it will take you back to the scammers.

Please be advised that my computer was taken over by a guy at the 877 number and has all our computer information.  Please help us resolve this issue.  This person got access to our computer saying he was from Microsoft.  What do we do.

I just got this pop-up telling me to call 877-740-4666. This is a total scam. First of all, the "official Microsoft webpage" is on the following url:

http://yahdjk.us/warningcad3

This is an obvious SPAM website-if it were from Microsoft, it would be on the microsoft.com domain. Also, the webpage is 1 image-no text or other content-just a screenshot from Microsoft's page.

I did a WHOIS search (https://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index-res.jsp) to see who owns the domain that hosts this scam (yahdjk.us).

Below is the contact info, including name, phone number, physical address, and email address of the associated domain (usually the scumbags running these scams are smart enough to pay the $9 it costs to hide your identity when you register a domain name).

I gave this person my house phone number but did not allow to make changes to my computer

Turn off your machine, un-plug your internet connection, restart, open browser and in settings clear all internet history. then close all tabs. close browser, plug-in internet connection. should be ok now.

Search AVG and Download their free version or you can buy for a small fee their professional one . When I got this message I started my AVG scan and set it to shut down when it was finished with the scan.. When I restarted it this phony scam was gone and the computer was perfect .. Hope this helps

Scam to call Microsoft

Pop up saying virus soft ware not up to date.windows not up to date.Pictures have viruses etc.Against the law not to have up to date virus protection.  Told they would take over computer and would block me from logging into it and use it.it was under their contol and wouldnt be able to have it cleaned ect .only they can help wanted 140 then 100 then 90 .went down to 1 but wanted credit card.got mad when it wasnt given.computer was frozen after they started to move around on the computer. Gave numbers to calll them back etc. Stated they were from microsoft etc
