This is a collection agency called the Office of Monterey calling about a Zales/Gordons Jewelers account that is not even in my name. Janel Lucas has left several messages on my cell phone, the last of which was nasty looking for a person that is NOT me. Doing the nice thing, I returned the call and told them the person they were looking for was not at this number nor did I know him. When I refused to give them my name and information they then accused me of being the spouse of the person they were looking for and that they would be forced to try again. I told them that I've been a victim of identity theft and no way was I giving them my info and that they better take this number OFF their list as I had no idea to who this person was. The gal said whatever, laughed and hung up. RUDE! If they call again, thanks to the posts above, I will be reporting them.

They called for a friend of mine. I told them that he no longer lives with me and they asked me for his contact information. I ask what it was about and they told me it was personal. I asked who they were and the lady just said "Monterey" as if I knew what that was. I told them that I will not give them any personal information without a valid reason other than it being "personal." She sighed and hung up and I laughed. I contacted my friend and informed him about it. The company SEEMS legit but I am not too sure about it. With today's advanced in technology, I would not trust it. Called my work number because I was a month behind in paying them.
i called them back only to be put on hold for more than a 1/2 an hour.

leaves a very nasty message on my phone requesting a person that does not live here - one we do not know.  The message says we need to contact her immediately to clear up a matter.  

received several calls from this company and when I answer no one is one the line other times when it went to voice a message was left to call this company also received a letter with an account number to look up when I went on line and put n all the information requested the answer came back account had been assigned to another person no further information.

Been receiving several calls on my cell phone from this number.  I do not answer, and every voice mail is for a different person.  They say they are calling from wags regarding the person they are looking for Siberian husky.  So odd to me.  And I refuse to answer the call.

  This number calls continuously on my cell phone.  I never answer any of the calls, but they call early in the morning, during the day and at night.  I am on the DNC cell phone list.  Can't something be done about these people.  I never answer a call when I don't recognize the number or the area code especially.

You are doing about as much as you can, by not answering, but have you considered getting a call-blocking app if yours is a smartphone? There are several free apps available for Android phones that will let you block calls from an incoming number. iPhones have call blocking built in.

If it's not a smartphone, you can still set up a contact with a name like SCAM or BLOCKED and assign the phone number to that contact, and then give that contact a silent ringtone. At least you won't be bothered by the phone ringing.

This number is Monterey Financial Services, as I found through google, on their website, which lists numerous numbers that they have. They are calling me and leaving voicemails at my aunt's house. I have not ever used my aunt's phone number for ANY communication with ANY company, especially not anything financial. Our linkage together is very distant, as even her maiden name is associated with her black father's side of her family and my last name is associated with my white father's side. It is bizarre that they have her number, especially since I only see her on holidays and birthdays. But they will not state as to why they are calling or what debt they are calling for. I have not been delinquent on anything since I was 18 years old. They have not called my cell phone, though. I am so confused.

Woman called from what sounded like a call center where you wait for their computer to connect them into the call you've already answered, asking for the owner by first name.  Took message:  "Melanie," but wouldn't say the number to call -told me to use the number on my caller ID which was 877-775-3080.  I asked the company name and she said "Medtronic Diabetes." I asked if the owner will know what the call is regarding - 'yes,' but no specifics given. I looked up Medtronic online and I don't see how this call could be from them.

Received a call from this number, called it back and informed them that the individual they are looking for was not at this number.  The lady I spoke to was very polite and said she would remove my number from their list.

I financed furniture through a company named bristlecone lending who then transferred it to Monterey financial, I paid off the loan early and was told we wouldn't have another payment and everything was free & clear and it would take up to 10 business days for the online account to reflect the payoff, it's been well over a month and a miss Patricia decided to email me saying that we have an upcoming payment due, I went online and looked at the account and it says I owe $70 The amount listed for the payment in email was $126.00 and I owe ZERO! This company is so ridiculous and horrible to deal with! They hire incompetent employees who will try to collect even when you don't owe! During my numerous calls to the company they put me on hold to talk w previous people I spoke with & it's always some kind of crap! They report to your credit all the time so be careful and make sure they aren't screwing your credit behind your back! This is my biggest fear that they will drag my score thru the mud due to their incompetent employees!

someone gave my number out as a reference and they were calling me pretending to be an interviewer for that individual.  after they confirmed their contact information they asked me to tell them to call them back!!! Had nothing to do with me yet they had the nerve to call me at my workplace and say they were "Career Step"

If they were calling about a job interview, why did you list them as a "debt collector"?

Called me not saying who they were

You have to send them a written notice stating that they can not call your family , work, or personal phone anymore. You have a right, they have to comply. Calling a work number for a employee that is not at this location
