it's a debt collector.

They called me repeatedly at work and left vm for someone else. Any idea who these people are?

Yes, agree with the above.  The left a message with the same 877 number and an account number to call back with.  They of course do not identify themselves in the message as a collection agency.

You call them and provide them either the account number or the phone number they called, and they tell you what they are trying to collect against.

I THINK THIS IS A HUGE SCAMMER  TRYING TO GET PERSONAL INFORMATION!!  READ ON!  First of all, I owe no debts so I am suspicious about this call for that reason as well as the fact that they say if you continue to listen to the recorded message you are assumed to be the person they want.  (How would they know if I continued to listen if they left a vm???) Called my cellphone and left this message:  (male voice) "This call is for(a female voice says name) (man's name given).  There will be a 3 second pause.  If you continue to listen to this message, you will be assumed to be (female voice again) (man's name given again).  This is regarding acct. number (gave acct. number).  This call is to collect a debt.  Please call 877-775-9364.  Any information obtained from you will be used in that regard."

this number called me today and left a voicemail.  the message said to call back about an account number i have never seen before.  needless to say, i shan't be calling back.

They always want to ask you to pay the bill statement, even it is not correct and is not clarified.

I definitely think this is a complete scam.  Someone told me it's connected with ACORN.  They are either trying to get private information on people or trying to rip people off.  Probably best to inform your state government Attorneys' General in any state if the calls keep coming in.  They've been leaving a seemingly infinite number of messages on my phone over the months, and I suspect they are the ones who are calling and hanging up too, because both activities started at the same time.  I'm sick and tired of it, and I've heard them use similar names like "Fair Collections", "Sarah Collections" and "Ferris Collections".  I have no debts or collection-related history of any kind.  This stuff HAS to stop!

I keep receiving phone calls from 877-775-9364, I don't answer any 800 numbers as I think they are people finders for debt collectors. I kept receiving calls so I had my number changed, and I still received calls from this number. So, it is obvious to me that this company is using some sort of random number system.

Leaves a message to call back, account number to reference.  I do not have any owing debts as I just filed for bankruptcy.

They call and leave a message for a female that isn't me.  I've been getting call from them for almost a year.  The last message said "If you are not _________.  Please call 877-775-9364 to get your number removed.  I didn't call.

I also had numerous calls from this number (877) 775-9364. The last three have been for different first names, but has my same last name...weird..but, as mentioned in this string of messages multiple times, I do not have any outstanding debt's, especially any that have gone into collections...nor is my credit report indicating anything...this has to be a SCAM!!

Got a message on my answering machine from 877-775-9364..it was for my son's father...but he passed away in June 2006....I never had the same last name as him, our son has last name, but I just got this home phone number 2 months ago and its in a different part of the state where we lived....
I know I personally don't owe anyone anything...just bought a house....
This is rather insulting and quite hurtful. Going to call tommorow and demand some answers as it isn't normal business hours now.

This isnt a scam. It is a Debt collector but it is for valid debts. I had recieved calls from them everyday for a week and finally called it back, and talked to the lady. I had a debt of 100 from an old credit card i had forgot about and never changed my address on. I was able to track the original debt and pay it off, but it is a legit number so u might want to find out why they keep calling. Its your credit that is being messed up by avoiding their calls

receiving many calls from 877-775-9364.  Called to remove number today, 08/04/09.  Hopefully will receive no more calls.

I've been receiving calls from these [***] for over a year. I keep calling the morons back and telling them that the person they are looking for is not at my number. They tell me they will remove my number from their f@3@1&*7 data base. LIARS!!! They call me again within weeks. I told these [***] three times this year, I am not the person they want. I called the FTC today and reported their skanky [***].

I'm getting calls on my number for a person who used to live in my apartment building ... the ignorant people gave out my number!! I tried to call them back to get off the call list but I get a message that it's out of service ... how very annoying!

From experience, I would recommend that you always ask for a statement, letter in writing to address the debt. If the caller cannot provide that, I wouldn't talk to them any further.
