- Burt| 4 repliesI have spoken with the caller several times. Indian accent (sorry to say this, but that's become a red flag for me right there... I know that sounds racist, but I think we've all come to recognize that a lot of phone scams are coming from India and surrounding countries. Then again, I also think that legitimate businesses have outsourced their tech support to India... so that's a tough call.) He identifies himself as being with Microsoft tech support and wants me to get in front of my computer. (my machine happens to be a MAC. hmmm) I avoid doing so - I'm not about to let a random caller have access to my computer (again).
Today when he called, he said that someone has hacked my e-mail address and is using it to send e-mails. He claims that that is the reason I didn't receive the tech support e-mail he claims to have sent last week. Today when he called, i told him to resend THAT e-mail and to call back in a half hour, He called back. I didn't answer. No new e-mail. (perhaps a scammer has good reason not to ever send an e-mail while in the process of trying to scam me.)
I'm not 100% sure this is a scam. He knows my e-mail address. He knows that I spent $600 a number of years ago (and today when he called, he correctly named the month and year of that transaction) with a similar company (although when pressed, he cannot NAME that company) I don't know for sure.. MAYBE he has good legitimate intentions and is above board. I'm not going to take that chance though.
Caller: Identifies himself as being with Microsoft Tech Support- Caller: "Microsoft" wink wink

- Burtcalled again today ... identified his company as "MicroTech" and says that he needs to update my security system that they installed in 2013.
He was able to correctly say how much I paid but still cannot come up with the name of the company that I paid in 2013.
In the drop down menu under "call type" can you please add "computer access scam." (This is where the caller asks you to let them have screen sharing access to your computer) There are enough of these calls to warrant creating another category.- Caller: "MicroTechj"

- JacquesGuy said he was calling about issues with my windows computer, saying that I was his customer. I had a lot of fun jerking him around, asking him how he knew it was my computer, didn't know my name, he kept saying that they needed to resolve an issue with my computer, after several minutes of him yelling "Listen to me!!!" and I said I would listen if he was going to play some MOTORHEAD, or The Jam, he hung up on me. I have a MAC, so, I couldn't even play along with him. Bummer. I think it would be cool just to have a windows machine, to play these guys.

- BB replies to LarrySCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not being racist, but Indian accent (seemed like they were trying to be difficult to understand) called 7 times!!! I called back and told them to stop. "Operator" dropped F bomb several times. They called back 3 more times just to hang up on me. DO NOT CONTINUE ANY CONVERSATION WITH THESE PEOPLE.

- sliderSeveral years ago I got a virus and called a number on my AOL screen for help. It was people in Bombay who said they were with AOL. They straightened out the problem as part of the "AOL support," and then told me they were with Microsoft and I could buy protection for 1, 2, or 3 years. I fell for it and paid them over $600. When I found a good pc tech, he told me these people buy ads on the splash page to make it look like they are with the company. They've been calling me periodically ever since. I normally don't answer, but was expecting an important call, so picked up the phone and heard "This is Henry" in that thick accent. I kept saying, "I can't hear you!" and he hung up and called back immediately, but I didn't answer and he left no message. If he calls back, I guess it's slide whistle time.
