- Scam Hunter| 3 repliesActs like a government entity but is really just a debt collector using robocalling technology.
- Caller: No name
- Call type: Debt collector
- Pudge replies to Scam Hunter| 2 repliesScam Hunter, this number is listed as the contact for the SSA, Office of Disability Adjudication and Review for Chicago, Ill. Here is the government web site listing that number:
https://www.disability-benefits-help.org/soci ... cations/chicago
While it is possible that someone, maybe a debt collector, was spoofing the number, you have provided no evidence of such deceit. If the caller gave you reason to suspect this is not the SSA office, you should post that. Otherwise you have posted misinformation that could lead to someone missing a legitimate call from this agency. - Annon| 2 repliesCalled twice, left a robo-voice message with extremely broken sentences saying I am to appear before a magistrate or "you get arrested", and to press 1 to speak to a Federal agent. This is a scam. Number might be real, but someone is using it for fraudulent reasons.
- Call type: Scam suspicion

- T. Parker| 1 replyOK, so I got a call from this number this afternoon and I wasn't home. They left a message that I would be arrested if I didn't call back by 5:00 pm. I call back and I get Social Security Office of Disability. What the heck? So it sounds like everybody on this page is right. It IS the number for the social security office and somebody is faking the caller ID. What I don't get is why the scammer leaves a message to call back when it's obvious you are gonna get the SS office. I guess scamming doesn't take a lot of brains.
- Caller: Fake SS office
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Pudge replies to PudgeIf YOU call this number, you will, in fact, reach the Chicago office for Social Security Disability Hearings. You can also listen to the recording in which the tell you that they are aware this number is being used by SS impersonators. If you receive such a call, the recording advises that you report it to the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0291 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.

They don't give this number to call back, they tell you to press 1. Its an automated system that calls and transfers you to a scam call center when you press 1 (or any digit they say). Its a tell-tale sign of a spoofed number when they don't give a call back number or don't say to call back on this number.Quote:What I don't get is why the scammer leaves a message to call back ......
Here is one of the robo scam messages called with this number in the CID:
Listen to messageQuote:From the Legal Department of Social Security our ministration purpose of this call is regarding inform an action which has been executed by the US Treasury against your social security number ignoring this would be an intentional are camped to avoid initial appearances before the magistrate judge or exam jury or 8 federal criminal offense so before this matter goes through Federal Claims court house where you get arrested kindly press one and speak to an officer now.Do Not give anyone your SSN!
Or any personal information.
The current scheme is they say your SSN is involved with a rental car found in southern Texas, with blood & drugs. Next theres some address they say was raided and discovered several bank accounts used for laundering money under your SSN, so they have to freeze your bank accounts and issue you a new SSN, but you have to secure your accounts by getting some gift cards.
Another variation is "your SSN is misused in Colorado" for money laundering, drugs, etc ......pretty bizare "off-the-wall" stories, its so hard not to laugh at them.- Only a scammer would leave a message telling you "someone" is using your SSN for criminal activities, then try to say your in trouble for something you didn't do!
- Only a scammer would say "legal enforcement actions".
- Only a scammer is going to call you and demand you pay them over the phone to avoid an Arrest Warrant that doesn't really exist. You would first have to go to Court and disobey a Court Order to get an Arrest Warrant issued. If an Arrest Warrant was issued, a Sheriff would suddenly show up at your door to serve it, they don't warn you they are coming and they don't put it on hold until you decide what to do.
- Your SSN can't be canceled, revoked or suspended because it is a number assigned to your birth name for Identification purposes, only scammers say it can. It IS your Identity as much as your name is.
- New SSN must be applied for with a misuse report on the old one and its FREE.
- Only scammers ask you to pay using Gift Cards. They are not designed to be a method of payment.
