- B| 2 repliesOn 4/1/2015, I was contacted by an unavailable number that turned out to be a collection agency that would not give a company name or address. They have the last four digits of my SSN. The debt in question was paid in full on 10/10/2008, settled with the original creditor and settled in writing with the initial collections agency from 2008. I also have a copy of the checking-account statement dated 10/27/2008, from whence came the final payment to the debt in question.
The woman I spoke with game her name as "Tricia Easton." She threatened to have someone come to my home that night to serve me legal papers. She kicked the hostility up forty notched when I informed her the debt was paid, in full, seven yeara ago. Then I told her she knew exactly what she was doing working for a scumbag company, and that she was a [***] monster and that there's a special place in Hell for monsters like her who work on commission scaring people into paying already-paid debts. She hung up on me when I got to "you are such a piece of [***]; your mother would be ashamed to know what you do for a living, unless she's a mean old hag like YOU." Felt good, man. Felt good.
I had my husband call as my agent. "Tricia Easton" said something to effect of "your wife yelled at me hostile hostle threaten threaten" and he said "yup, that sounds just like her. And you deserved it." He didn't give me many details of the conversation because he was clearly upset and didn't want me to go from upper-level anxiety to full-scale rage mode. I'm an INFP, can't help that passion when my values are threatened. "Tricia Easton" would not give my husband the company mailing address, and intentionally tried to create a circular, confusing conversation where she would avoid every single question my husband put to her. Luckily he started enjoying fing around with "Tricia," so he simply kept her on the phone and contiuned redirecting her back to the original questions until he frustrated her so entirely that he got her to give us a fax number (which, if any of of you guys would like, is (888) 608-0394. I'm sure they'd love getting faxes of pages and pages of gay pron all day. Just as a creative example. I'd never do something like that, of course, but if I were the revenge-taking type, it would be clever at least).
Of course faxing them any of my personal information, especially in light of the fact that they refused to disclose their official company name and address and so on, so we went a better route: The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection! They allow you to submit complaints online, and I did so immediately. I filled out the description of what happened, the resolution I desired, and scanned in the voluminous proof that the debt was paid to submit with the complaint. I did that last night. The confirmation e-mail I got telling me my case had been filed said that in orcer to keep my complaint open, I'd have to call them with the offending company's name within 30 days. Thanks to the notes people have taken time to put here, I didn't have to call those knobnozzles again and demand a name. I called the BCFP just minutes ago and was immediately helped by a really, REALLY kind woman. She confirmed my identity against my account, and when I gave her the name she was like "ooh, we have a LOT with those guys. Don't worry, we'll get this taken care for you right away." Then, with a smile in her voice as she said goodbye, she said "just relax and know the government has dealt with this 'company' before, and we will definitely make this stop."
If they are calling collecting on a debt you've already paid, submit a complaint here: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ . It takes probably 15-20 minutes to write out exactly what happened, from start to finish. Get the names and extensions of the people from the "collection" agency, and write down your case file number also. Do not provide any proof/personal information to CIG & Assoc. Scan in all the proof you can get your hands on, and attach it to the complaint. Let the government squash these SOBs for you. They're breaking the law, and the only way to stick it to 'em is filing complaints and putting instructions like these online to help everyone being harassed by bad debt collectors.- Caller: CIG & Associates

- Got called too! replies to B| 1 replyDid anyone ever show up? To serve papers?
- So mad! They scared me.| 2 repliesMy cell phone rang, unknown number, then my work phone rang and they asked to speak to my supervisor. Asked her the best way to reach me and serve me papers. I called them back at the number they provided 855-471-9813. spoke to a "litigation specialist". He had my DOB, my address, last 4 of my social... was calling on an extremely old debt, saying they will serve me litigation papers at my home and my job, will not relent until I pay. I told him do what he had to do and hung up. I immediately went online and found this site as well as others saying it was a scam. It has got my nerves on edge. He was very rude, pushy and arrogant! HOW DID HE GET MY INFO! It's like now I don't feel safe.

- CWG40 replies to Got called too! This is a debt scamming operation. Nobody is going to serve anyone. They rely on threats. Ignore and block their calls.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumerfinance.gov/Complaint/#debt-collection
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. - CWG40 replies to So mad! They scared me.Ignore them. See my entry. They call from a variety of numbers. Ignore and block the calls.
- AndrewGot a call last week from this company. They called and stated they had court papers for me and they needed to serve them Jessica Hernandez was the server. When I called the number she gave me. They referred me to Patricia Easton. She stated I had an account from 2007 and for me to make payments of $382.00/monthly for 8 months. I advised to send me to court. I did call back to get the address so I can write them. The referred me to Kenneth Johnson who was a f***en a**hole. He told he would not give me the address because I was irate and I would go and shoot them, what a dumb a** I told him, he/they called me first. As of today 8/5/2015 still have not got served with papers. WATCH OUT PEOPLE. TOTAL SCAM.

- CWG40ID themselves as CIG. Supposedly located in Placentia CA. This is most likely related to CIG law firm. Something called CIG has a history of debt scamming on 800notes. No real idea where they are located. They rely on threats only. Ignore them and block their calls.
