Fake!!! Posing as a collection company ( that exsists) but are not actually that company...is a scam artist trying to collect funds for "reduced debts" that are not owed.  Report to authorities if they contact you!!! They ask you to call "Sal Hernandez" and offer a reduction on a large random fake number.... hoping to find someone who is in trouble financially and won't check their debts. If you get a letter or call report them immediately to the authorities!!!

    Hi Cindy,
I just received the same thing this evening and I’m freaking out. Did anything come of you contacting the authorities? Apparently, I have another credit card acct tied on me, but it’s not the same that’s listed on the letter.

Cindy posted here last August and probably will never be back.  Since you claim to have received a letter, what is the legal name and address of this company?  What did the letter say?  Did it include the following verbiage?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Have you gone to the following federal and state agencies to learn what you should already know about debt collection?

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
