- Bluebell18| 2 repliesSo, yesterday in the afternoon I received a call from a local number (Cleveland) & it was automated voice stating documents were in process of being sent to me. If I would like to settle this matter please call us back at 877-866-9661. When I called a very rude, impotent gentleman answered,
"Hello, this is Robert how may I help you?"
"Hello, what is the name of your company?" I asked.
"Allegiance." He said.
"Ok. Well, I received a call on my phone stating that I need to talk to someone regarding papers?"
Silence. Then, he asked, "Is this...."
"What's this about sir?"
"Well, you have a balance of blah blah blah from a certain credit card. Can I ask why you decided not to pay off this balance?"
"Well, I never heard of your company & I need to get a valid letter through the mail stating that you have a legal recourse to collect on this bill."
He started to get tense. "Ma'am, we've been sending you letters in the mail regarding this bill. We can send you an email. Is your email address......"
I maintained my cool. "By law, sir, if a customer asks for written validation through the mail, you have an obligation to send it."
"No, I don't. We don't have to do anything. Now, is your email...."
"I will not verify anything until you send me a valid notice in the mail within five business days."
Then he raised his voice higher. "What business are you in that you think you know what you're talking about?!"
"I'm in the business of protecting my rights as a consumer & since you have been snippy with me by not sending me any kind of info, this automatically lets me know you are a fraudulent company that scares people to paying you scam artists."
He hung up on me.
Ladies and gentlemen, this company is a scam. As a consumer, please read up on your rights. If a shady bill collector calls you, ask for validation of the debt they are trying to collect. Ask for the address of the company. If they hesitate or become argumentative, they are not a legit business.- Caller: Allegiance

- Jillyfish replies to Bluebell18I love your interaction with this person. I've received the same phone call and I never answer. I hate their rudeness and insinuations/accusations. Well done.
- FrustratedatDebtCollectorsThey have now gone beyond calling. They just texted me this morning telling me that my bank refused payment to them and I need to call them immediately. This is a complete lie. I never set up any agreement with them to have money be debited from my account. I just blocked their number. It's a complete scam!
- Peggy| 2 repliesI received a voicemail from this number and a woman said her name is "Lexi" and needs to speak to me about some papers and left a call back number of 833-620-2382, extension 105. Doesn't say what the name of the company is that she is calling from either. I have no idea who these people are and not falling for their scam.

- BigA replies to PeggyThe fake process server/location finder extortion attempt usually consists of the following:
They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency. They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer). They threaten to serve you at home or at work. They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work. They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID. None of which is true. Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them. Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else. They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”. Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time. Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general - blankExtremely rude and ignorant women seem to be running this operation, told me that she was on a “federally recorded line” which I’d really love to know what federal agency they’re claiming is working with them! When I questioned this they completely backtracked and said it was “recorded for quality purposes”, ah yes just another lowlife scammer trying to get money out of vulnerable people. She has the audacity to tell me that she’s the supervisor, oh wow!!!! And that I was “wasting her time”, I miss when these losers at least had the presence of mind to feign professional behavior.
