- Eric M| 2 repliesCaller claims to be a representative of the I.R.S.. Claims charges will be brought in Federal court if I didn't make a payment. This is a scam! The I.R.S. sends notices of back taxes through the mail, not by phone. If you receive this kind of call, take down the number they called from if you have caller i.d. and notify the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357.

- Johnny CThis is a scam from those indicating they are from the Internal Revenue Service. They ask for the contact information of your criminal attorney so they can schedule a conference call. Obviously, this is a SCAM as others have indicated. I recorded the phone call with a video of my phone and caller ID. It will be posted soon on my YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/jcara17
These guys knew my full name but they are not very polished in their approach. The caller(s) had thick (possibly India) accents and one stated his name was Jason O'Connor... not likely! An internet search puts the call location as India. Be informed, be aware, be smart... avoid these characters!- Caller: Scam, Unknown
- mariaReceived a couple of phone calls saying there was tax fraud in my name and if I didn't call them back that I would be arrested from phone numbers

888-201-1689- Caller: IRS
- privoz59Some idiot with an Asian (possibly Chinese) accent introduced himself as James Anderson (maybe a relative of the fairytale author, Hans Christian Anderson). He left a message saying he was from the IRS, and that I needed to call back ASAP before I get arrested because they was tax fraud claims in my name.

- G manCalled at 8 am said they were with a federal tax court and said the message was for my wife by name - an obvious call center in India with am Indian female using an American name. Left the call back number of 888-201-1689 to call back before the file charges...haha what a bunch of idiots!
- NewsgirlA senior citizen called to our news center today indicating that she received a harassing phone call from 888-201-1689 saying that there was a warrant out for her arrest and demanded contact information on her defense attorney. They also said that there was a lien filed against her and called her a [***]! She said that the two people she spoke to had thick foreign accents and it sounded like they were working out of a call center. When she used *69 and called them back, all lines were busy. Good thing this older lady didn't succumb to these threats!
- BobI also received this IRS fraud call. It must be a scam.
- Caller: Don't Know
- FrancoLooks like we have some shills/trolls/call center employees on this thread...
- Starr replies to Eric MThe same number called me. I did report it to the FTC. Everyone should know that IRS NEVER calls the only contact in writing. Thanks for FTC info, if you go to their website and search under scam watch you will get more info.
- LeoHello this message is intended to donate involves(?) this is officer John Smith calling to you from the Legal Department of the Internal Revenue Service. The purpose of this call is just to let you know if you have received a legal petition notice regarding that tax fraud against your name and this case is about to get registered into the Federal claims court house. So before this matter case(?) goes to the court house. Call us back at 8553679139. I repeat the number is 553679139. Thank you and have a nice day."
- Les PolkGot two calls from this number in the last few days. Sez he is from IRS and that they have filed suit against me. Called his bluff but he insists that its a legit call. IRS will either visit you or mail to you, not have some non English speaking person call you.
- Sick of idiotsI am so f***ing sick of these people calling me and it is soooo obvious they are frauds. Just like the morons on this thread saying this is a ligit call. I have never been in trouble with the IRS so theres a clue. First, learn how to spell!! Second, anyone that calls me with a thick accent immediately gets cussed out and hung up on. That's how you handle scammers. Next, I will use a very powerful air horn for their listening enjoyment.

- Tara Rayner| 1 replyThanks to all who posted this! I also received a call from 888-201-1689, from a man with a thick East India accent--officer Steven Benson--badge number-112356. I was kept wrapped up with these jerks for almost an hour. I even challenged the preposterous claim, as my husband and I always file jointly, short form. I was told that it was just against me and all our assets would be seized and the police would be on my doorstep within an hour t arrest me. They gave me a period between 2002 and 2012 that I had intentionally defrauded the IRS--to my knowledge the IRS can only go back three years. They gave me a dollar amount of $2876.29--doesn't IRS always round off to even dollars--and would I be able to pay that today? I asked if I could appeal this and was told I would be given a form number 17, after I paid. I was transferred to a senior agent--Keith Anderson-badge number 19897--also with a thick India accent who raised the amount to $3876.29. I was told to keep my phone connected to them while I dressed to go to the bank and then they would transfer to my cell phone to keep in constant contact while going to the bank and then to the IRS office where they would give me an officer to deliver the money to and all would be expunged as if it had never happened. I was not to speak to any third party until all had been resolved, to which I asked "Are you saying I can't even speak to my attorney?" "No ma'am not until it has been concluded." "And I can't even tell my husband what is happening? Our assets are jointly owned and he isn't expected to notice $4000.00 removed from our savings account?" "You may talk to him after all is concluded." What is funny is the call was dropped three times during all this and they kept calling back saying the recording was continuous. However with the third drop they couldn't get back through and I haven't heard another word. I assume they realized I had had enough time to check on them between calls, so they gave up on me. They did get my cell phone number from me, but couldn't make it work. My adult son came in and I told him what was going on--yes I spoke to a third party!--and asked him to accompany me to the IRS bldg. and to carry a gun, in case I was going to be mugged in the parking lot. Fortunately, after two runs to the bank--I forgot the extra thousand dollars between agents--there were no more calls. What a wasted day!

(888-201-1689) Funny I read about it on the internet earlier in the morning. This was not my first call from them but this time I played along. After case numbers and badge numbers in a thick foreign accent, I was transferred to a lady who once again gave me badge and case numbers in a thick foreign accent. She asked if I could repeat the case number to her which I couldn't. I asked her if she had problems sleeping at night scamming people like she does. She said no. I said go f*@% yourself and hung up. Funny they asked to speak to my wife but spoke to me instead. Any port in a storm. I would have loved to see how much they wanted to settle my "case".
