He is a LIAR - and this sounds like a bottom feeder trying to extort money from you (the FAKE  "we have a summons for you SCAM").  It is also ILLEGAL to claim to be law enforcement - and he certainly is NOT!!!

Knew was fishy when he said he would be at the house within the hour and gave number to call him back.  Was tempted to call him back and pretend to fall hook line and sinker for whatever scam he had.  Made a guy once drive to 12 different places over the course of 2 days expecting to recieve money.  He finally gave up and quit calling

Guy said he had to deliver some documents but it had to served to the correct person, he had the correct name and last 4 numbers of my social and my home address. He said that he needed to confirm if I would be home to receive these documents from sender: "LA County" . Then he gave me this number: 888-202-4850 with an "Case # to reference" . When I called the number, some guy answered without stating the company name and then said he was from Code Management. Then my friend called me and said they called him looking for me as well and threatened to contact all my acquaintances until I complied with them. This sounds really weird, but they did have my correct info. So I don't know what this is all about.

"So I don't know what this is all about." It's the fake process server scam. Real process servers don't call in advance.

Received a message from this number, the message stated Paul Richardson had a seal document for me and he will be at my home within a hour, if he can't get me at home, will be going to my nearest relative home or place of employment. Left a case number but did not indicate the type of document or which county courthouse had the case. Also, there was no mention of the Company he represents. I never knew you would receive a call to be served. I thought they like to catch you off guard, just like the repo man.

The fake process server extortion attempt usually consists of the following:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or some sort of complaint and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work then they will need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and must be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there really is a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

The company still can be fake! I work at a telephone company and have researched the telephone number is on the tools that I have available. The number appears to be legit! Please if you get this telephone call do not share any information! People Unaware that you can pay for services like LEXIS-NEXIS and acquire concert information about anyone using all three correct pieces of information. I can use this type of service before, when searching for people going to company money. Information entered was simple as first name, last name, and phone number. That information being correct, I was able to acquire: Full address, favorite color, neighbors, a person’s previous address, and it’s on the other information.

Please take care when answering your telephone and sharing any information with a caller!

I got a voicemail from a man claiming he had sealed documents for me to sign and that I would need a witness. He left a phone number and reference number for be to call back to let them know when I would be home. He also called my dad and left the exact scripted message. I know first hand that any documents that pertain to any debt would NEVER give you a heads up of when they will be arriving. It is definitely ILLEGAL the way this man is going about it.

I got the same message but he stated in the message that he had verified my place of employment. I have been out on disability for almost 2 years so I was tempted to call him back and ask him where he worked because right now I didn't know I had a job. But he said he would be here within an hour they also sent me a text and told me they would be here at 2:33. That's a pretty specific time but apparently they're GPS doesn't work because they're still not here
