- Alfalfa replies to sallyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Send a "cease and desist" letter to them and by law, they have to stop: 5706 E. Mockingbird Lane, Ste. 118, Dalls Texas 75206. Or to make sure of the address...ask them to give it to you when you call the number that they left. By law they have to stop calling by consenting verbally or give you their address so you can ask them in writing.

- Anonymous replies to Nicole| 1 replyThe Mockingbird lane address is a fake address. There is no suitee 118, trust me I know because I have been investigating these scumbags. They are illegally operating off of the radar to prevent being traced down. The phone number is a "Ring Central" number through a virtual PBX (you can look them up on the internet). They will give you a fake address and all mail there will be returned. Suite 110 is subway, 115 is a UPS Store, and 120 is a barber shop. The UPS store does not have a 118 mailbox either, I went in there and checked with the manager.
So, call them, tell the to give you a legitimate adress or go to hades. They won't. They will even refuse to let you send payment by mial (HUGE RED FLAG!). There is a very good chance that they are not operating inside the US, since most of their tactics are illegal and they know it. - also Anon| 1 replyIf they are using Ring Central illegally, you can contact their fraud department at 866-737-7704 to report them.

- Lo replies to also AnonAgreed! Do NOT give these people any of your personal information. File a complaint with the FTC. They contacted me through an employer that I have not been at for 5 years. I still have friends there that refused to give them my personal information. These people have been told several times I no longer work there yet continue with the harassing calls. I called them today and first I could hear "Eddie" pretending he couldn't hear me after I called him out about it being a scam. He kept saying "oh crap she's still there" as he was trying to hang up on me. I called them back and "Eddie" answered again, how ironic. I recently went through a bankruptcy and know all of my creditors and this was not one of them not to mention that it's illegal for debtors to contact you during or after a bankruptcy has been discharged. Not one real creditor has. I filed a complaint with the FTC. Everyone else should do the same, do not give out your personal information, if they are a true debt collector they should already have that information!
- Xx replies to NicoleThat address; 5706 E. Mockingbird Lane, Ste. 118, Dallas Texas is a fitness center
- XxBoth of the addresses the BBB has are bogus,( one is a condo and the other is a single family house)
- DJCan someone please call them and ask them to email you a "settlement letter". I can then trace them using the email header information. They refuse to email me because they know I am trying to track them. Just call, ask them nicely to send you the email, like you are going to pay and then post up here. I will tell you how to pull the sending computer's IP address.
- DJAnd by "Post up here" I do not mean post the email. Just say that you have an email from them... Do not post anything personal.
- pantherboipaYes I love this web site for this reason! These scum bags called my home phone and my cell more than a dozen times. I knew when the phone number came up unknown caller and 1-000-0000. It was a fake any way keep posting to get a name and real addy! They are probaly from over seas.

- DJgot a call from a 0000 number on my cell (which I don't give out) from a John Branigan (recorded) stating papers were being served either at my work or home and to call 8882029588, which I called and got a recorded message from Clearwater financial. Contacted attorney general and they let me know that
a) you never get a courtesy call if someone is serving papers on you
b) if they refuse to send you any documentation, it is bogus, as, by law, any attempt to collect needs to have paperwork provided- Caller: Clearwater Financial
