My computer was hacked and that was the number I was to call,,I didn't,,I shut down,logged in in safe mode and did a lot of scans......

I got a big red page saying call the above # and if I cut off my machine the company would totally turn off my computer as I was hacked, the guy gave me something to write in run slot but then he keep saying can you hear me and dumb me said yes, and he kept asking, I hung up and he called back and I just said I was advised not to talk to anyone that kept asking me questions and asking if I could hear them and I hung up and cut off my computer anyway...........turned it back on and guess what it works and then the number listed on my phone was private number and looked it up and it was a scam, how can they use microsoft's name and not get punished???

The scammers are in a foreign country making it difficult to go after them.

Easy.  They are located in India and Pakistan.  No one in the US can prosecute them and the local governments do little.  I usually just shut down and disconnected the modem.  Then start up and then reconnect the modem.
