Sent text messages to my phone and my daughters phone regarding “an open investigation” on me. When I didn’t call, another number that was a local number called to inform me to call this 888 number. I was told it was a civil court matter. That they sent me papers. They tried to get me to give my address and I did not. So I did call the 888 number. The man was extremely rude. When I said they were harassing my child, I was told, “a phone call is just a phone call. I suggest you stop doing things to cripple your child”. When I replied that they were sending texts and that he will not talk about my children, I was hung up on. Clearly this is a scam.

Rachel called from MSI or NSI claiming action against a person not at my number, referencing file #320-00591, and that claims would proceed against that person, whoever they are.

I received 2 calls from a local number that was a 719 area code. The first one was 31 January the second one was today 04 February. A lady supposedly named Amanda from MSI or NSI, something like that very hard to understand saying that I have a complaint against me and that I needed to call this phone number 888-240-1843 regarding case # 320-000xxx. I did't call it yet I found this first thankfully.

Received a text message from 201-474-2761 and message stated: "This is a message from NSI regarding an open investigation pertaining to (My Name) to verify location information. Please contact the issuer at 888-240-1843 and reference case file 320-00730 to prevent further escalation."
I later received a call from 701-289-5215 claiming to be from NSI and wanting me to give them my address. They claimed there was some legal action against myself. Hint... There is no legal action against me. I asked to be removed from their call list and they were very rude about it, but it made me laugh because they got so frustrated with me not willing to comply with their phishing scam.  Do not give them any personal information!
They then proceeded to call my wife's cell phone and my sisters cell phone. These are pretty awful people. I filed a complaint with the FTC

Its just an empty threat and nobody is going to come knocking on your door.

    Debt Extortion Scammers

Carrier Services and Process Servers do not know what is contained in the documents they are paid to serve/deliver. Anyone explaining what they are delivering, saying "you have officially been notified"  or offering an alternative "solution" to avoid delivery is a scammer.

The vague scare tactic message is designed to panic a victim into calling back.

Most debt collectors will use a certain amount of pressure to convince you to pay the debt. After all, they often don't get paid unless you pay. Be suspicious of a debt collector who uses an unusual amount of pressure to get you to pay immediately, particularly if they also use scare tactics to get you to pay right away. For example, a debt collector is scamming you if it :
    • threatens you with a lawsuit and tells that you can avoid the lawsuit by paying right away
    • Says a Process Server  or Courier is coming with papers to sign
    • Threatens to call / go to your place of employment
    • Insists you have been notified, served or are non-compliant via phone message(s)
    • Refuses to give a company name or verifiable Contact source
    • Refuses to send proof of debt via US mail

A sure sign of a debt collection scam is a collector that wants to you to pay via wire transfer or another method that can't be traced. If the payment method can't be traced, you'll have a harder time getting the authorities involved.

If the creditor sounds completely foreign, or you know you never had an account with that business, there's a chance it's a scam. Never pay a collection you don't recognize. You have the right to request written proof of the debt from the debt collector before you send payment.
