Got an offer to reduced my debt in the mail.  Called & they did not identify who they were, said it was a call center for 150 companies, & would not transfer my call to company making offer unless I gave them my phone number.  At first they said it was "in case the call dropped" but when I pressed them, they  said they COULDN'T tranfer call without my number.

Sounds suspect to me.

I received a letter in the mail to reduce a $19,000 debt for a reduction price of $6,732.  I do not have this type of debt.  Well I called the number provided on the document.  A woman answered.  They said they would have someone call me back because all operators were busy.  I have not heard from them yet.  What is this?

To Kay: my friend received the same letter with the exact same reduction price of $6,732.  I wonder how many people actually believe it and pay them.

Could you please give us more details?  Are they trying to collect a debt or is this a debt reduction scam?

A letter in the mail that did not identify a company name or address.   stating Wayne Barringer call 1-888 240 7591 regarding important terms regarding the resolution of unsecured debt.  Your Creditor is now willing to negotiate a reduction of any total outstanding balance.  You have been selected by our Management division and are now eligible to resolve this debt.  Our records indicate you have not called to negotiate this reduction as proposed.   proposal date  September 12, 2017 Total of unsecured debt  $19,236 reduction of total debt to $6732  it is very important that you contact us toll-free 1-888-240-7591 upon receipt of this notice. This proposal must be redeemed by midnight  of October 13, 2017,  Call toll-free 1-888- 240-7591 IMMediately to avoid loss these negotiated terms Call toll free 1-888-240-7591   and then a reference number   I called  them to find out what this is about because I don't  owe that  kind of debt,  the woman on the other end of the phone  answered   processing center.  asked for reference number asked for my phone number and name had me spell my name got me to say correct.   When I asked what this is about  I was told there was no one there to  talk to me this is a call centre  I  did not feel right after  this conversation looked at the letter  you can tell it is a copy   And  nowhere on the envelope  or the letter itself or during the phone conversation  did  they every  identify themselves.

Any communication received by US mail which appears fraudulent, should be taken down to the local post office so that the postal inspectors can take a look at it.  This may be some form of mail fraud.

I got the same letter. I do not have any debt from any unknown place. If you wish to check - look up your credit report and see what debts they list for you. SCAM is what I see.No Need To Call or Respond in Any Way !
