- GrrrI just got a call from this number (on my unlisted, nobody-has-it-but-family cell) and the woman asked for me by name and stated that she was calling because I had signed up for information regarding work from home, making money on the internet, etc...DIRECT COMMERCE ACADEMY. She was polite, but I KNOW that I have not signed up for anything. I told her that and she said that I probably filled out one of their "pop up" ads. NO WAY. She proceeded to ask me questions to see if I "qualified" for their business and I stopped her and told her I wasn't interested. She wasn't very pushy, which I appreciated, but I am worried that my cell phone number is out there. The questions that she asked gave me the impression that she was trying to collect data on me. Who knows why. I've had this number for about 8 years and don't give it out. It couldn't have been randomized because she knew my name. I have no debt aside from a vehicle loan that is financed through my reputable bank and I've never been late. SO, I have no idea how my info got out into the scam world. I was really surprised to see that no one else has reported this number. Be wary, if you aren't someone who fills out online surveys from random pop-ups, don't give your info.

- trickedAgainWell I didn't answer, but yesterday I began an application for a 'make money on the internet' program, and I did provide my phone number. The previous post makes me think my application and the phone call were related. When I read the Terms and Conditions, I didn't proceed with the registration, thinking that my information would thereby be discarded (which should have happened; I didn't become a customer). If anyone is interested, this program, from undergroundcashmachine.com, sticks you with a recurring $68.71 charge with tricky opt-out procedures, and what you get is not a job, but 'information' on how to 'make money on the internet', meaning setting up a website and collecting from credit cards, while selling your 'product', whatever that might be. Oh, and all the disclaimers and lack of responsibility on their part, and all of that. The internet is becoming a happy hunting ground for bogus profiteers.
- Do Not Call is a jokeAsked if I wanted to earn money online. I said they were in violation of Do Not Call law. They said I was going to be removed from their list and hung up.
- the sargeJust showed up as a "missed call" ya think?
