Scam. Alert popped up on my laptop while I was checking yahoo mail. Alert said do not close or restart computer or a virus will be installed. The alert posed as a legit alert from microsoft. I called the 888-249-7226 number and confirmed my suspicion that it is a scam, they just wanted me to grant access to my laptop.

I also was reading an article on Yahoo news when the warning popped up.  It was very legitimate looking for a scam.  The address read  - support.Windows.com. I thought it should read  support.Microsoft.com  if it was real.  I shut computer off, then on to run a scan and showed one virus and I isolated it. So far it is ok.

**  I should also add that I had my Yahoo mail open in another window, so I guess it could have come from that and not the news article.

  if you call them even with caller id block on, they will get your phone number. FYI this scam needs to be stopped

This thing shuts down my computer keep repeating,call this number. I didn’t call cause I knew it was a scam

I had same pop up when I was in yahoo mail. I didn’t call the number. I had been warned by a friend that it looks like it’s coming from Windows. Scam for sure

Red message appears on PC screen: Critical Error, call 1-888-249-7226 (I didn't call, just killed the browser with task manager).

I was browsing mail through bing homepage and the same error popped up - I didn’t click the link but immediately looked up the number.
Total scam- above this site the number was posted for Amazon prime customer service

I really believe this number is a scam  !!!  The gentleman talking to me demanded i give him a credit card number in order to help me .
