Male caller to my cell# stating it was KCM regarding claim#----- against my ex-husband, & he should call the "legal department" at 888-251-1921 immediately to avoid additional penalties.  No idea who kcm is, & my ex has never used/owned my cell number. We've been divorced 20 years! Suspect scam.

I got a call today from 313-696-0417 and they said that I needed to call 888-251-1921 to sign a legal document claim #260854. They said they could not tell me what it was about because of privacy and I had to call the 888 number to find out. I am not involved in anything requiring me to sign a legal document. This is a scam.

Called saying pending legal action for a unpaid debt from 2006. That debt does not exist. When i asked for digital copy of the information it was denied and that they only way was for in person serving me. They had private information that should not have had and I will be pursuing further legal actions.

The fake process server/location specialist scam usually contains:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or that some sort of complaint has “come across my desk” and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I received a call today that went to voicemail - the message was a woman's voice saying that this was regarding a complaint filed against me in their office (absolutely no designation of what kind of office) and that I needed to call back before immediate action was taken. The number given to call back is 888) 251-1921. I knew this was a scam - I have an Atlanta area number still on my cell phone, but I've not lived in Georgia for over 15 years. The original number from the call is 404-600-0133. I've been unable to track that number down.😠

got a call from 714-461-0723. They said that my wife had some legal documents that needed to be served to her. They told me she needed to call 888-251-1921 and left a ref#. I called the # and a guy picked up that said "legal department." He said that my wife needed to call and not me, and hung up. Called again and asked "what kind of scam is this?" He got mad and said my wife needed to call and hung up. Called again using a different number and a nicer fella picked up and said they were a 3rd party that helped process legal documents but that my wife needed to call to get more info. My wife got a VM that said it was regarding a complaint someone had about her. So all in all, a scam. But I do recommend calling them a messing with them just for fun :)

1 (888) 251-1921 it’s a scam saying they will file a complain on my husband. Called my mother in law and left me voicemail. Sounds like a call center but it’s not. Rude and they will hang up.

They called my family back to back asking for ways to get ahold of me, even though they had my contact information. I called back, after getting on Google, and told them I was recording their call per the advice of my lawyer, and that I knew they were a scam, and what did they need. They told me I was stupid, told me they aren't paid to be my guidance counselor when I said I was given this number for guidance on a legal situation, and then blocked my number and other numbers I called from. :D If they can be psycho, so can I. Losers.
