Called my cell, hung up after I answered. I called the number back and it said it was the IRS. A few minutes later they called again and they hung up when I answered.

They've called my cell twice today, so I called the number back. A person with a heavy accent answered and told me she was calling from the IRS. She asked me twice whether I was sure that they called my number. She then asked to confirm my address and zip code to ensure they are speaking to the correct person. I told her "If you are calling me, you already have that information on file. So, Who are you calling for? I can confirm whether you have reached the right person." Then she hung up on me. I'm certain that THIS IS NOT the I.R.S.

Why did you return the call?

At best, returning a scammer's call merely confirms your phone is "live", and your number will be added to a list that will be used by even more scammers.  At worst, the call will cost you additional fees, if it is from a foreign country, such as Jamaica (876 area code).  Also, scammers are now spoofing Caller IDs, so the number you see may not really be the number that called you.  It might belong to an innocent, third party.

If you are disturbed by frequent calls from scammers / spammers. obtain a call blocker app, device, phone, or service.  Google (or your favorite search engine) is your friend.  Remember, the Do Not Call list is designed to prevent calls from legitimate, registered telemarketers, but scammers / spammers are not legitimate telemarketers, do not register, and they ignore the DNCL or your requests!

Made the mistake of calling them back. A woman with a heavy Indian accent said it was the "Revenue Department" (IRS scam). They call every day from a new number. Quite annoying.

BEWARE!  Its a scammer calling you!
The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. In addition, IRS does not threaten taxpayers with lawsuits, imprisonment or other enforcement action. Recognizing these telltale signs of a phishing or tax scam could save you from becoming a victim.

Just got a call from this number. First a woman came on the phone and they did not have my name but said I was being sued by the IRS and asked If want to settle it in court or over the phone. She put her "senior officer on the phone who also had a heavy asian accent. When I asked them where they were calling from and to spell the name of the person they are trying to reach they hung up. This is a total scam - don't give them any information.

They called me twice this morning, left no message and it was about an hour inbetween calls. Called them back and the man who answered just said "Hello?" several times, like a normal person. Why is he calling from an 888 number then? Block.

Called me 3 times today.  When I answered nothing...silence and they hung up.  I finally got curious and called them back.  Same story as listed by previous people.  Some heavy accented woman in a loud call center environment pretending to be the IRS wanted my personal info.  At that point I hung without telling her anything.  Adding this number to spam list on my phone.

I received a call from this number, when I said hello there was no answer. I figured it was a scam but stayed on the line for a moment unless it was a connection issue. After hanging up, I researched the number and found this feed.

Fake IRS scammers, I messed with them giving fake info for about half an hour then laughed as they cussed me and said they were sending the sherif to arrest me, I said "send him over, he's a buddy of mine". Which got more cussing and promises of jail lol

This number keeps calling. When I answered they said they were the I.R.S.
If anybody knows anything, the I.R.S. doesn't call, they send letters. Absolute worst case scenario they will come to your home. Not to mention they couldn't even tell me my name when they called.

Exactly. I'm sure they won't even call. I know a few people who have had real run-ins with the I.R.S. They send letters. If the situation is bad enough, they come to your home.

    Sonya Anonymous
IRS scammer called today about 11:15 (Central) (888)276-8930 and stated that I owed and the police were coming to my job or I would go to jail when I got off, if I didn't pay $6500.00 dollars. So to save me the embarrassment, just pay what I owed.  Well I politely told him that if you were the IRS, you should be fired! Since you broke protocol by calling and demanding money from me and not through a certified letter notifying me of the $6500.00 tax debt. The IRS demands you pay your taxes, not demand a payment over the phone. Then you call with a foreign accent and sound a bit confused yourself, you must be new and still in training.(LOL)  Then I asked, who are you looking for again and he said, Sonya ********, I knew right then, get off the phone. That's my name I use on social media, so people BEWARE they are now stalking /phishing your social media pages. So be careful who you accept as friends.
