Got a check from Chase, want to make sure it's legit

Apparently there was some kind of snafoo and they are sending out refund checks. I am trying to varify lefitamacy as well

I got a check in the mail for $20 from Chase with a letter saying it's a refund for "recording fees collected" when I paid off a loan.  The letter says to call this phone number if I have any questions about it.  Questions?!  How about: why didn't I get the $20 five years ago when I paid off the loan!

Claim to be Chase and informing me of a Chase refund.  They asked me for the loan number on a home that I sold about 10 years ago. I don't know that loan number, so they asked for my social security number.  I told them that I would not provide that over the phone. They said they could not help me without having my social...so I hung up....SCAM

I call chase directly with # I know was correct and they sent me over to several departments and I finally got the right one.  The number is correct. They are going back on loans to 1999 and paying people the closing cost back. They did some kind of audit and found out that the custermer got charged the cost and now they are giving them back the money plus interest. I didn't have my loan number but they did it for my SS number. The lady said they own people back any where from 3 cents to triple digits.
Hope this helps. If you need confirmation you can call chase on any number you know is correct and ask them. She did say she was having trouble with custermer service telling people the number was not right but if you ask for the lady from the bottom of the letter they will transfer you to her and she can take care of it. I did have 2 people from chase tell me the number was not a chase number until they transfered me to her to check on the number.  Good luck and hope you get your money back.

Got a letter from Chase Home Finance stating that I was owed a refund on a mortgage I paid off in 5/07 when I sold the home. After refusing to provide my SS# over the phone, the Customer Care Rep said I had to fax the HUD-1, Review Audit department and formally request the refund. I sent the fax and we'll see what happens.

I also got a letter on July 1, 2010.  After reading the blogs here, I decided to call the number.  I provided the rep with my old mortgage loan number (they had the last 4 digits printed on my letter).  After verifiying my current address, and my old address (both of which I allowed HER to provide to ME from whatever info she had in front of her), she gave me a refund total amount which exceeded $2,000 and said that it was was "an average on payoff of closing costs" on a loan that was closed on a house we sold approx. 5 years ago.  She told me she would start a "work order" and that I should allow "20 business days" for the check to be mailed, OR I would be receiving another letter of some sort (which she really couldn't explain what that second letter might entail).  Sooooo....if the check comes, great.  If I get a letter asking for more info, I will contact my old real estate agent to see if this is really something legit. Hope this helps someone....

Just called the number and they couldn't pull up my account with the number I gave them.  I refused to give SS and asked to be transferred to Samantha Mullins (lady at bottom of letter).  I left a message....we'll see if I get a call back.  The rep told me that it was probably in reference to a VA loan and I should call the VA office.  What?!?!?!?!  Just curious, are your loans VA?
