- ML| 2 repliesThis number is on the Verizon Customer Service Facebook page - I was locked out of my online account so I called to get assistance - The guy who answered was from India (accent) and he manipulated me into typing in a url in which he was able to control my laptop and wanted to charge me $180 to rid my computer of viruses - I told him I just wanted my account unlocked - I uninstalled the link and hung me. Why is this number on a Facebook page for Verizon Customer Service?

This is the number on that page: (800) 837-4966
So, why are you making up stories? - MikeHuntleton replies to ML
Because scammers create fake pages and websites to manipulate people into believing they are associated with whatever company their victims are in need of support for.Quote:Why is this number on a Facebook page for Verizon Customer Service?
This is a scam outfit's number:
What you described is a typical Tech Support scam, where they want remote access to your computer and then scam you by telling lies, that you need anti-virus or network protection software/services. Most cases they will run the "syskey" (Microsoft SAM lock tool) to lock you out of your computer and hold it ransom. - RustySame experiences as above except my wife hung up on the dude from India when he started asking for her information. Reported his page to Facebook
