Is this number legit?

Knowing if a "number" is legitimate or not doesn't really matter if the "caller" spoofed it. Now if you provide some details about the caller, then maybe someone might help figure out if the caller was legitimate or not.
All you put was "PayPal" as the caller, so with that being the ONLY info you have, then I would suspect it was not a legit caller.

I got an email for a PayPal purchase in Google Play store and the phone number (888) 327-1324 is in it.  Supposedly from the merchant but I know it's a spoof email because I can check PayPal transactions to verify if it happened.  I have a friend who's in his 70's and fell for one of these emails a few weeks ago. It was a "Best Buy" receipt and message thanking for purchasing a laptop.  He actually called the number in the message and it was a foreign speaking individual.  The bad news is my friend believed the person was helping him get the refund and gave him REMOTE ACCESS to his computer!  After realizing it was a scam he spent hours changing bank accounts, canceling credit cards, and more to make sure nothing could be stolen.
