These morons somehow managed to get my cell phone number, which only a dozen people have access to.  I don't appreciate that at all.  Or maybe (hopefully) it was an accident...

It is highly unlikely they obtained your number.  The vast majority of these call centers use computerized dialers that start with XXX-XXX-0001 and dial every number in sequence until they reach XXX-XXX-9999.  Since only answered calls are passed to an agent, the dialer doesn't care how many not in service, busy, no answer or answering machine calls are made so there is no reason to use an actual list of known numbers like back in the days before these type of dialers existed.  Once exception is charities seeking donations of clothing or household goods who employ local individuals to call from their home phones who are provided with a list of numbers of past donors and dial them manually.

I've received these calls before. It's simply a reminder that your trash pick-up will be delayed one day due to a holiday. It's a convenience reminder for their customers (although I'd prefer an email frankly).  Note Jim and Rich's calls were right before Christmas 2012 & Labor Day respectively. Vashti, Mike, and I all got calls last night.  Indeed, my waste & recycling is on Christmas Day this year - therefore the pick up will be one day later.  This call is not worth throwing a fit about - it's just a reminder.

If it's a legitimate call, why don't they have a legitimate Caller ID?    And why don't they call on my land line?  That is how I communicate with them.  I don't give out my cell phone number for the simple reason that I don't want any of these unsolicited calls on it.  I'm still tending to agree that it is just another aggravating robo-dialler.

I received three calls on three different occasions from this number.  All three times, they left a message regarding a garbage pick-up schedule change.  After the third call, I called the number back and explained that I was not an Athens customer and wanted my number removed from their calling rotation.  They put me through to a customer service rep who took down my number and assured me that my number would be removed from their list.  I was on hold for a very short time, but it was worth it.

It's Athens...I just looked it up.  They didn't leave a message.  My city will be using their service starting in July and they sent out post cards a couple of weeks ago.  I had to give them my number and sent in the post card.  I presume that is why they are calling.  Why they didn't leave a message I have no idea.

"Athens Customer" is correct -- I looked up the number to double-check this morning, when I received a garbled call on my cell. (They called the house/landline phone last night.)  I returned the call and it WAS Athens Services, and the rep assured me it was likely just a courtesy call about delayed service due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday.

Athens Disposal.  Typical Athens quality, no caller ID & no message.  That's what you get when they grant monopolies.
