- nottelling| 2 replies***MAYBE***** they are a legitimate debt collector, BUT I have zero debt and my husband checks all charges on our bank account so he would flag anything wrong. BEWARE!
Called on my WORK number and left a vague, slightly threatening message saying this was courtesy call to help me, but provided no other info. Used my first name in the message, but since anyone who calls my work number would get that from my out of office message, I read nothing into that.
If this is a legitimate business calling people legitimately, they are (at the very least) getting their info. wrong. The little bit of debt I had I paid off a long time ago and it certainly wasn't to the "Department of Education". I was lucky enough to have a full ride scholarship and graduated with zero student loans.
Again, maybe they are legitimate, but to be safe--- YOU know if you owe anything to anyone. It is very easy to find the REAL phone number for whatever business that is and call them yourselves, directly. Don't respond to these jokers is my advice.- Caller: Enterprise Recovery something

- BigA replies to nottellingEnterprise Recovery Systems, Inc. Is a company that is licensed by the DOE to collect debts.

BBB Page: http://www.bbb.org/chicago/business-reviews/c ... ook-il-14008895
Illinois business registration: http://www.ilsos.gov/corporatellc/CorporateLlcController
DOE Contract: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sites/default/files ... verySystems.pdf
So yes it is a business, but whether their methods are indeed legitimate is questionable.
Realize that you have rights in this matter whether you owe money or not, that these cretins are not allowed to call your place of business after they have been told not to, and that they must validate the debt as per the FDCPA.
You can read up on your rights here, find template letters to send if you need them, and most importantly file a complaint against this business here: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ - CelticDragon replies to nottellingAlso like to add that the proof of debt must be MAILED, not email, not fax, not phone, it must come through the USPS.

- LOL same here replies to NotPayingAnythingSame here. I am self employed. I have a pre-paid cell.
I also send cease and desist letter telling them to stop calling me.
My student loan is from the 1980 's.
I tried to talk to one collector back in 1983 who became rude and I told him I would not put up with anyone being
rude to me in that I would just hang up and not call back. ( that was a pay phone )
He smarted off , I hung up and that was over 30 years ago. I haven't spoke to anyone since about my student loans.
I will not put up with rudeness, there is no reason for them to be rude.
Before anyone here starts about crap, understand something ;;;; only thing they can eventually do is garnish my social
security check one day . If / when they finally do that ; The government statement from the S.S. Administration says my projected monthly check will be 500.00 range.
So with allowances for below poverty line, etc. I wish the collection luck.
The 15 percent garnishment on less that 500 per month being 70 dollar range is a drop in the bucket compared to the would be payment on a 71,000.

- BigA replies to YesWell known debt scammers around here. Your best bet is to follow what I have posted here: https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-253-341-4274#p1371599794690334753
One should never try to communicate wishes verbally with a debt collector. They will ignore them and say they were never told or asked. However it is very hard to say that when it was put in writing and sent certified, return receipt. - BethCalled our office and started asking about people's names and job titles. I suspect this could be some effort to find someone they are looking for. I refused to give the woman any info and she hung up on me.

- Virgi| 7 repliesFirst time hearing from these people was Sept 2019 the letter they had sent me was not much of an explanation..please call our office "Student Loan" delinquent Balance of $261 pay asap or else your SSDI benefits WILL BE garnished starting Nov 2019... ! I thought at that moment this has to be a Huge mistake! The last and only student loan i had ever had was in 1987 amount was for a $1000 for "Northwest Airline & Travel School" unfortunately i couldn't complete the course and i deferred on the loan. However, in1994 & 26yrs ago i was employed with Walmart corp. there was a wage assignment placed and garnishment started intil $2500 + interest had been PAID IN FULL! Needless to say my proof & evidence of each pmt made deducted from every pay check and ending once Payoff was compete no longer exists...Walmart's associate files and data are destroyed after 7yrs..When i called to straighten this out and expecting someone to help and answer the questions i had was anything but...first of all they had proof on their computer obviously showing them i had made a large amount of payments in 1994 ...i said to him "if u have those then scroll down im sure the "payoff "is there also! He refused to look for that piece of evidence and that he was NOT AUTHORIZED he said to me" to give me a hardcopy of my "payment history" ! Are you kidding me? Furthermore his cocky attitude was horrible. He would not tell me how MY PAID OFF LOAN would resurface after 30yrs...did not and still have NOT recieved any sort of billing statement with dates balance amount. November 2019 i was NOT aware, for-warned or given any Notification that funds had been REMOVED from my Social Security Disability Benefits that quick! DECEMBER was repeated exactly the same! I still have no idea what i am paying and how long so far these scam artists have removed over $400. In 3mos!! I was physically sick over this, mainly because this is my soul income that they are illegally taking from me!!! Also they included .. Do Not call Social Security they CAN NOT GIVE U ANY ANSWERS!!! I called them anyway...only thing. i was told is....US Dept of Education federal offset on a student loan! How long? Can u tell me What the balance is?No...would have to get in touch with loan holder for any info..the only thing she could tell me is what it is for . How can SSA allow someone making false claims without any proof is beyond me not informing them that i had paid this debt off 30yrs ago...I feel helpless

- Tygerkat replies to Virgi| 2 repliesContact the US Department of Education if they're allegedly allowing this.
- BigA replies to Virgi| 3 repliesAlltran is a debt collector. As such they are required to follow the FDCPA. It appears that you ignored the letter which should have told you that you had 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt. They then would have had to prove that you actually owe this money. You will now need to contact a consumer attorney and sue them. I see that I have posted a link on this page to information about what to do and how to do it. I would suggest that you take the time to read it.
- Virgi replies to Tygerkat| 1 replyI have been calling what i thought was the US Dept of Education but it seems as though the number isnt legit its saying that its a debt consolidating business..i have also been trying to get a real honest to goodness number for USDOE some way or some how....NO LUCK
Btw? Thankyou - Virgi replies to BigA| 2 repliesWhen i recieved the letter? I was thinking about ignoring it but i called them immediatley to clear up this nightmare. Once i was speaking to this guy "Houston" i could tell he wasnt going to help me..i asked him to send me some paperwork or a billing statement telling me where, how much is. the so called debt? He said he wasnt authorized to give me that info...Unbelievable, REALLY? and said that i would be getting that in the mail...STILL WAITING!
