- sophia| 2 repliesI got a pop up dialog from a website that would not close out and required a reboot to recover from. After a virus scan, I did not have a virus. The dialog claimed my computer was infected and I needed to call 888 392 8417 to get the infection fixed. I called the number and they said they were Technical Support, but would not give a company name. They told me I was wrong and I needed to give them my information so they could remove the virus. Definitely phishing for something. When I called with *67, and hung up because Michael, the dude that answered would not take no for an answer, he somehow got my phone # and called back 2 times.
- Ellen replies to sophiaI had the same thing happen on my computer telling me to call 888 392 8417 to get the virus fixed. My computer also froze where I needed to reboot to get rid of it.
- JessI got a popup on my computer saying they were Verizon and had detected a problem on my computer. I looked up the number using my phone and saw Sophie's post, so I shutdown my computer and rebooted. I did not call the number after reading Sophie's experience. My computer seems fine.
- KaylaIt's a scam and I fell for it. They didn't say what company they were calling from, only that they were technical support. As with previous comments, the technician's name was Michael. They directed me to Wikipedia to show me what the viruses were on my computer. They told me their rates for security and when I said I could only afford $100 they accepted it immediately. The whole thing was a scam. If you ever have a pop up saying your computer is at risk, contact the pc system provider right away.
- LynnSame thing just happened to me. It is a scam. He told me I would need to pay $199 to get a license key to fix my computer. For that kind of money I'll buy a new computer. He immediately hung up on me :)
- D.J.| 1 replyGot this popup message. All I did was went to task manager, went to processes, and closed the chrome.exe process with pcmaintenance247.com running.
- SelligI had that call too. How come in 2015, there is nothing we can do agains those [***]? I did ( alt-ctrl-delete) to stop that message.
- T.J.My computer had a Pop-ups saying I had serious threating activity with instructions to call the 888-392-8417. So glad I googled the number and found the previous complaints. I tuned my PC off and then back on and it seems to be ok.
- unknownThis is a scam received the same thing about a month ago, but different area code and TN.

- DKVI got the same popup with instructions to call 888-392-8417 to remove virus spyware and could not close out application. I was using Google Maps at the time. I ran a full system scan with Norton Internet Security and also Norton Power Eraser; no problems were detected.
- KathyMI also had the same experience today twice. the same pop up. My avast immediately popped up saying a threat was detected. I was suspicious & used my task manager to shut it down. Got it again. So I googled the number. This makes me feel better, it's a scam and not a real virus.

Name Server: NS42.DOMAINCONTROL.COM - Me replies to sophia*67 doesn't work on toll free numbers. This is why utilities use them as a way to identify callers and fetch the correct account detals in an automated system. The US government ruled that the owner of a toll free number gets to see who is calling since there is a per second toll charged and that the rate is higher if the call comes from a payphone or from another country.
I learned this in a book called Skip Trace Secrets Dirty little tricks skip tracers use - DougSpoke to a guy maned Mark claiming to have anti-virus in my network and was going to charge my card $200. for another year, I told him I will not pay don't call again as he wanted me to allow him access to remove his so called anti-virus. Could not understand the guy.
