Called today by a young woman on a scractchy line who rapid-fire mumbled a message onto my voice mail. The only barely intelligible was this phone number. I called the number and an auto attendant answered with a business name I didn't know and connected me to another young woman who immediately said this was a recorded line, and then asked "Can you hear me OK?"

As the connection was still scratchy and I never heard of the business I answered "No." and immediately hung up. I just realized this is a resurfacing of a scam that was being used several years ago. The call IS recorded, and you're immediately asked if you can hear the speaker because they want to record you saying "yes." They then provide whatever "service" it is they're selling even after you say you don't want it, and when you try to contact them to say you never ordered it, and won't pay, you find they've sold the debt to a sketchy collection agency along with the  snippet of the recording where they announce it's a recorded line, and the other snippet where you said "yes."

You then get to enjoy the sketchy collection company hounding you to death, including possible legal action.
