This was a Carolyn Pride from NCO Collections - rings back directly to her extension

I called this back, and it was a message saying ACS marketing, which does marketing for "large companies", and said if you want your name taken off their list, to leave it after the tone.

I applied for a credit card yesterday online. Today I received a phone call from 888-461-4674 saying they were from the credit card company (Capital One), and that they needed to ask more questions to verify my application. I refused to give them the last 4 digits of my social security number when asked.
When I asked them to give me a customer service number for Capital One so I could ring myself, they gave me 800-933-5182. I could find this number nowhere on the Capital One website. However I did find it on a blog somewhere saying you could check your Capital One application by ringing the number and entering your social security number. Sounds fishy to me.

The same exact thing just happened to me.  Did you find out if this is fishy or not?  I just called Capitol One and the woman said she didn't know anything about it.

I applied for a Capital One Credit Card on yesterday and today I got a call from this number but I did not answer it......Fishy????   For sure

A few days after I applied for a Capital One credit card, I got the call from 888-461-4674.  I doubt the caller but unfortunately I gave my information to the woman who insisted that she works for Capital One.  But the number is very suspicious which is NOT shown on Capital One web.  

Where did they get the information about people who applied for a Capital One credit card?  From Capital One or..?  What do both of them do with  potential customers' data?

I had the exact thing happen. Applied for Capital One yesterday and got the call this morning. Didnt answer and no voicemail was left... kinda fishy but Im not going to call it back. We should be ok since the website we applied on is secure. Still, something to take caution on

Applied for card, a day later I get a call saying that they need to "verify" information. I called this number to find that it belonged to a company called ASC Inc. I became suspicious about this number so I called Capital One, and explained the situation. The supervisor at capital one said that he knew nothing of the company and that I should not attempt to call the number again. The Capital One supervisor said that he would check into the company (I gave him the name and 2 phone numbers linked to the company... 1-888-461-4674 and 1-800-733-1471). He said that Capital One did not need to verify any information on my application and he apologized for the inconvienience. All in all STAY AWAY FROM THIS NUMBER!!!!

Oh No! I feel so dumb...they called me and I assumed it was Capital One since I just applied....I gave them my information....what should I do!

I also received the call from 888-461-4674 asking to verify information on the Capital One card I had just applied for.  I did not call back to verify but I was very surprised by the call.
