Call from ING checking on status of bank account. Seems legit but I did not want to provide social to pull up account info. I will c/b with Customer # instead

Message from a woman claiming to be from ING Direct and that it was for a time-sensitive, urgent matter. Interesting point: her next sentence is "this is not a sales call or a solicitation", which I found odd for someone to say. It is probably an attempt at identity theft.

The message is vauge because we are a bank and we have to try to protect your information. We are typically calling to let you know that your funds have been abandoned and or are in dormant status.  We do this also to let you know that your funds may be in danger of Escheatment.  If you aren't confident in the message and the number provided go look on the web site in learn more and then contact us and the number we provide of 1888ing0727 or 18884640727 is the number for service of existing customers.

Turned out that my mortgage company typo'd the account number for automatic withdrawals and they were letting me know about it so that I could contact my mortgage company. The e-mail that they sent was titled "An Account Update!" and it was suspiciously vague, which is why I looked up the number.

Said I am Jim from Capital One can you verify your last name. Hello no I will call back. Called my bank instead. I am older than dirt and learned a few lessons on the way. Too many scammers out there.

Number just called purporting to be from the Cap. One fraud department asking if a charge for ~$1000 was authorized.  After saying that it was not, I was placed on a brief hold, then received an e-mailed stating that someone was trying to access my account.  A couple seconds later, I was sent a text message with my authorization code, which the guy on the phone was asking for.  Do NOT fall for this!

This number called me several times in a row,the caller ID coming up as "Ing Direct" Curious, I picked it up the third time they tried calling and was greeted with up to 10 seconds of silence? If it was a legitimate company they would have only called once and left a brief message, so I've blocked the number for now.

I got a text saying they got my change of home phone number a month ago.  I called the number to tell them I did not change my home phone number.  I was told to give my Debit card number OR my social security number.  I said I want to speak to someone and a foreign person came on the phone and then hung up.  They used Capital One's red and blue emblem.  Is this part of the problem from the recent problem?  How do these people know my phone number and my name????????????????????????????????????????? Should I Change banks?

I got a call from 888-464-0727 it even had the capital one emblem on it it was not Capital one 360 it’s somebody spoofing their number don’t give them any information I don’t know why Capital one isn’t doing anything about this

Didn’t get a phone call but did get 2 letters saying they were cap1 and both had this number on the bottom for sales/service. I looked up cap1 and I called them from the number that was on the website and the lady I talked to said this number is not a cap1 number

Caller ID showed Capital One, but I don't have any business with Capital One so I didn't answer, they left no message. From the comments here it sounds like a spoof with an attempt at identity theft.

This number has called me twice on my cell phone, once at 5:59 PM today and once at 2:56 PM on 12/27/2023.  They did not leave a message.  I don't have any accounts with Capital One, so I assume this is some kind of scam call with a spoofed number.

They called, and hung up before leaving a message. Based on the other entries here, it was probably a scammer.
