- Below the Mason Dixon Line| 3 repliesI am housesitting for my friend and received a call from 716-835-0036. The caller stated that my friend would be getting a warrant of summons for "theft of services" tomorrow if she didn't call him back. He said his name was Paul Truman and gave me a call back # 888-468-9075. I told the man that she was out of the country - which she is - and wouldn't be back until Feb. I asked him for an email address - as this is the only way to contact her. He said she had to call him by tomorrow.
After I hung up, I got suspicious and ran to the internet. I did a reverse look up on the 716 number from Buffalo, NY. It came up as a land-line phone for some lady. Maybe they are picking up random residential numbers in the area so that their number doesn't pop on caller ID. Then I tried to reverse look up the 888 number, it too came up a land-line - but didn't have any other information attached to it.
I started looking around online, and found this website. Thank Goodness. I am not going to contact my friend about this - as it has been stated in previous postings - this is a sham. What a relief. But is there anything we can do to get these guys closed down. I am certain not everyone is running to the internet for help - and they are probably scamming a lot of good people.
So, the number may have changed - 888-468-9075 - but scam hasn't.
There is more information on this company from up state New York on this website under a different 888 number.- Caller: Paul Truman - Don't recall the company
- JunieI received a call from Paul Truman who claims he is with Kaufman & Burns. He gave me an address of 4244 Ridge Lea Road, Amhurst, NY 14226....basically for those of you who do not know NY very well...it is Buffalo, NY. Do not..I repeat do not give out any info. If they know you have a debt, make them prove it. They should be able to provide you with documentation that shows the original contractual agreement with your signature.

- britesdeI also received a call from a man calling himself Paul Truman from Burns and Associates. He was trying to collect a debt from my Ex-husband, whom I have been divorced from for over 4 years. He tried to threaten me with saying I was responsible for a debt that my ex-husband incurred and I had no idea of what he was talking about. He threatned to put a lien against my house. I thought he sounded suspicious. I'm glad I found this website. I believe he was trying to strong arm me for my ex-husband's debt.

- LMPaul Truman is a raging lunatic!! I believe this may be a legitimate collection attempt because he tracked my down through relatives and gave specifics. But he is going at it the wrong way. He has spoken to two of my relatives telling all of my business and threatening to have me charged with Check Fraud (Misdemeanor) when it is only a case of being unable to repay a Pay Day Loan from 2 years ago (a company I attempted to make arrangements with before losing my job, then they later went out of business). This is the 1st time in 2 years I have heard ANYTHING about this debt, then I get a call out of the blue being attacked and treated like a criminal from the word go. I tried talking with this man, but he is an unimaginable idiot. He says he is not an attorney nor a bill collector, but a Litigation Director. It is as if he is not interested in resolving the debt, but only to make accusations, threats and to bully you. His only option was to send in a payment (which is triple the original amount owed) or go to court and criminal charges will be filed.
After trying to talk to him (I ended up hanging up on him), he continued to call my relatives within a matter of minutes after talking to me. This is harassment to the 10th power.- Caller: Kaufman & Burns

- LMI filed a FTC complaint https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ against the company and more specifically Paul Truman.
Maybe multiple complaints to the FTC will get some action. Consumers have rights and regardless of debts, we do not deserve to be harassed like this. This man is using Guerrilla Warfare Tactics to collect a debt and then has the nerve to try and shake you down for 3x the amount.- Caller: Kaufman & Burns\

- Debbie| 1 replySame as many others, but I did give my bank acct info. He convinced me I owed the debt, threatened with Fraud charges. Just didn't seem right. Closed acct at bank & he called to threaten me because he couldn't get the money from acct.
I had asked for verification of debt & he claims they mailed it twice but I never got it. He offered to fax but I was insiting on mail. I don't think he wanted to mail it & be faced with Federal Mail Fraud charges.
I told him he should check himself out in the internet - all kinds of postings that he is a fraud. He said it's all us deadbeats slandering him, not wanting to pay our cebts. I have reported the info. I have..name, Paul Truman, Ph#888-468-9075, address in NY.- Caller: Kafman and Burns (or so he claims)

- Annie| 3 repliesI have gotten calls from this character for a few months now. He claims that he is going to have me arrested on a payday loan that I couldn't pay at the time ( btw:I went back to the payday loan company and arranged to pay it off thru them only, which is possible, if you can make the arrangements) After I made the mistake of explaining to him that I already made arrangements, he began to rant about that until he gets the information from his client, I still owe him and the interests. I chuckled, told him that I have sent a certified letter stating this and that if I continue to get these calls, that I can file suit on harrasment and violations of the FCDA. He then began to say that since I have no rights because 'he's a lawyer and knows the law better than me' that I don't stand a snowball chance in you know where to succeed. I told him that I also use to work for an collection attorney that rented his name to do collections and that if he was one, what is his bar number. He called me a [***] and hung up. And since I can record his calls in this state, this will be interesting when this comes to the fan.

- TinkerI had a relative that received a phone call from this "Paul Truman" and he gave ALL my personal information to my relative. Once my relative gave me the message I imediatley returned the phone call, once I did he continually threatned me and harrassed me and told me I was a loser and worthless. The original debt is from a Payday Loan dated back to December 2001, and he was trying to collect 3x the amount owed. He told me I had until 9:00 central standard time to take care of the debt that day or else he would take me to court and file fraud and a judgement against me. I even tried making payment arrangement with him and he said that was unacceptable. At first it scared the heck out of me until I watched dateline.msnbc last night and then I decided to google the number and take action against people like him.

- bahI have had numerous calls from 888-468-9075, Mr. Truman and he leaves a case # to reference. I called him back and it's about a debt my neice owes. He says it pertains to fraud that the county clerk's office has filed and that a warrant will be issued for her. I told her she does not live here and to stop calling me and besides way doesn't the sheriff's office call if a warrant is going to be issued. What a dumb ass Mr. Truman is.

- FormerCollectorOh I had it out with Frank Segel today on the phone. He left me a voicemail saying he was calling from litigation department of Kaufman and Burns on a matter of Fraud. WOW! I'm a former bill collector and he violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act big time! I called him back goating him into breaking more laws and he certainly did. I have reported him and am in contact with a firm to press legal action on him and his company. I encourage you to do the same. Look up the FDCPA, i'm sure you can get him on violations as well and you can be rewarded handsomely.
