No message left

I don't know it the number, so I don't answer it. No message left. Might've related to these other numbers 888-505-5242 and 888-503-6815. If they left a message, I might have called  back. Multiple calls, no messages, I might as well block.

After a pause of about 3 seconds, the caller identified herself as doing a follow-up survey on my recent experience at an auto body shop. She asked if I could answer questions. I said no - I was at work. I asked to be removed from their list. She asked if she could call me on another number (!) I repeated my request to be taken off their list. (FWIW, I had completed a written survey of the auto body shop weeks ago. There was no need for them to call me).

I answered, and after three seconds of dead air, the caller hung up without saying a word. I've been receiving a rash of these 888 calls lately. Usually, I'd ignore them and immediately block the caller, but there has to be an explanation for this, so I answered this one. What is really going on and why are people being insufferably harassed like this?
